I know I'm not one of the more popular Tankers here (in fact I've had my fair share of heated debates with many of you) but just wanted to say thanks for the words....I kind of needed a reality check tonight.

I don't want you to feel so incredibly guilty about it either, you made a mistake, it happens to all of us. Just learn from it, and be a little more conscious of the reality of your situation from now on. Last edited by CallMeRotten; 03-22-2009 at 12:48 AM.. |

Like I said before dude I don't mean to be harsh, I honestly would like to believe that most of the things we've said here has already been thought over by yourself many times over prior to making this thread. You know the drill, nobody has to point it out for you.

Of course it has. It wasn't just the purchse tonight but the entire collection as a whole. It was $200 tonight, $50 last weekend, $100 last month....it just never ends. I'm closer tonight then I've ever been to just saying I don't want to do this anymore. For all of us who have put money and countless hours into collecting and getting everything just right it ain't easy to say that. I think it's time to hang it up.
When you begin question your habits while in the checkout, buying ANOTHER Black scarf cobra trooper, it's time to evaluate and consider a break. My evaluation started when I picked up 4 Marvel figs and realized that I just dropped $35+ on 4 figures that I don't really like but I wanted to buy something. |

I've felt similarly (not the same, I don't have a family, THANK GOD) but the Greeks were right: Pleasure in moderation. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Behavioral addictions (shopping, collecting) are easier to manage than biological ones (alcohol/drugs, eating, sex). |

I have the complete 25th/Modern 'set so far' in plastic tombs in storage. It feels weird putting them away, but there is no where to display them all anywhere that feels nice.
I realize I spent WAY more than I should for something I can't even go see without punching in codes. Now I buy stuff to open and customize/dio's etc and it's much more rewarding, even my girl notices I enjoy it a lot more DOING stuff with them. Will I sell all the MOC stuff? No I don't think so, if I did I know I will regret it later. But apart from the odd thing coming out I'll just get what I really enjoy.

I liked the single card art of the 25th and Modern Joes so until Wave 10 I got one of each to put on the wall. And I made displays of COBRA army stuff and little scenes from the comics and cartoons, as I said. It gives me a sense of purpose. It does, however, render one's living space very 40 Year Old Virgin. At least I've kept the toys out of the bedroom. That's another suggestion (one I've not followed myself, uhhh...): Have a set space for stuff and don't let it spill out of that space. If you run out of room, get rid of older stuff you don't want and/or have upgraded. |

I guess I find honesty is the best answer. I have a deal with my partner its called budget. I have a budget for each month. If I spend all of it I am done for the month, If I didn't go overboard I have whats left over for the next month. It works for us. Times are rough and sticking to a budget amount keeps the peace.

I did a recent "reality check" too. I was getting back into collecting too deep, too fast. So i did two things:
1. Decide to trade instead of buy for my weekly fixes 2. Quit smoking! This really sucked (at least a pack a day for 16 years), but this win/win. There is no buyers remorse when i get home knowing that i will always have my purchase as opposed to an ash tray full of cigarette butts. Oh yeah, and i want to live long enough to see my future grand kids playing with my 82 joes while watching the MASS Device! |

$500 dollar limit credit card, get one. Use it exclusively for your plastic crack problem. The worste you can do is hit the limit on it, and if you do that no more crack till you pay the balance down.
Probably the only reason I'm not up to my neck in MOC 25th Anniv plastic, |
