If you figure the cost of inflation VS the rise in wages, it is really scary.
You can make $50,000 a year these days and still not have the buying power that someone making $20,000 in the 1950's would have had. I do remember when $20 was a lot of money. I remember when my mom would go grocery shopping and buy enough food for two weeks for only $80. Today that same bill runs me close to $300.

Oh and you know you are old when the music you listened to in high school is now played on the Classic Rock radio stations and when teenagers look very very young to you and annoy you.

oh man I remember those days. I had my own little lawn service. I had 10 yards in my neighborhood. 20 bucks a yard with the excception of 2 yard. I could not charge the 2 elderly ladies at the end of the block, but they both grew cherry tomatos and would give me a bag to take home. That was the begining of my love for cherry tomatos.

I used to mow my dad's lawn, the lawn on either side of me, the one across from me and one up the street. I would start at about 7:30/eight o'clock on Friday morning, bust my ass and be done by 12:00/1:00 with $40 bucks in my pocket. Not too shabby. I also delivered newspapers. In the winter it sucked when the weather was bad, but in summe time the route took less than 45 mins. I had a ton of older folks on my route and all the papers got hung on the rings below the mailboxs or put in the door, never just tossed on the porch. Some folks tipped me weekly and at Xmas time I would end up with an extra $100 in Xmas money, plus cookies, candy, gloves, scarves, etc. A few of the folks still remember me and will run into my parents at the grocery store and ask about me. They say i was the best paperboy ever.
