Hey guys, a few nights ago I started a thread called Revaluating Career+Future. In that thread I gave the run down on how I would make a change and what I needed to do, and alot of you guys shared advice. Now I gotta ask for a bit more.
I went on about how I might want to instruct martial arts and be a personal trainer as well. Through conversation with a family member the other night, they said this.."those are both things you love, and your good at, but they are going to lean more towards PT for awhile. If you were giving consideration to being a military reserve or volunteer firefighter..why dont you just become a firefighter full time, or a police officer. You will be able to help people like you wanted, make honest money and have the time to instruct martial arts or be a personal trainer. Just sleep on that" Ok, so I did, at this point I'm taking every single thing into consideration...I'm in this boat because I listined to all the wrong people in the 1st place! Here is my question most of these civil services offer an "alternate route" where you need 60 college credits and you take it from there. Also it waves the exam...which isnt comming out for awhile anyway. The cutoff for fire and police is 35 in NJ so I'm still ok,(but have to hurry @ 32!) however if I wanted a fighting chance I need 60 credits. I have less then a semester under my belt so we assume I'm starting from scratch. 60 credits is gonna take me about 2 yrs? Thats what I hear. Now the word floating around is CLEP test... What it sounds like is that I can recieve credits for passing an exam? By the time I was done with everything today it was passed 4 so I knew none of the state DOP or local schools would be able to answer my question. If anyone has any info or advice regarding the CLEP or anything else mentioned here please drop a line. Again, I'm not trying to be "all over the place"--but it would be really stupid of me to not listin to people who care about me and who are successful in their own right. |

Unless you took advanced classes in high school and remember everything really well, the CLEP exams will be a waste of money and time.
