All kidding aside, there are a whole lot of planets out there. It would be pretty presumtuous of us to think the earth is the only one that's got intelligent life (or at least semi-intelligent for the aliens monitoring our media outlets right now ).
And if they are advanced enough to get here in vast numbers, they have every means to domesticate us like cattle if they so choose. So let's just hope they are as benevolent as they are advanced... |

No the analogy is fine. There is plenty we don't know. Everything we know about science TODAY says interstellar space flight is not probable, if not totally impossible. But can you say for certain that there aren't new scientific discoveries yet to be made TOMORROW that might change that. What about the existence of wormholes in space? Might they act as a way to travel from one point in the galaxy to the next? What forms of fuel might yet be discovered that would provide the means necessary to propel a craft through the stars large enough to carry humans?

Math is Math and can always be applied - but their is always new applications creating new theories and helping to create new things.
(Side note: I personally feel that the idea of infinity goes against Math - how can you truly calculate infinity if it keeps going?) Physical Laws as we know them are based on certain applications of Math. And they only apply to us with our knowledge that we have at hand at this time. New discoveries are made every day and sometimes the Physical Laws and Math can also be changed because of them.

Their are NATURAL things that can travel faster than the speed of light, The Fabric of Space being one of them. There are also theoretical particles such as Tachyons, but again THEORETICAL. And even now Albert Einsteins biggest blunder(Which he called it) has been proven to be true...The cosmological constant is known to actually be occuring, and he figured it impossible, just goes to show the Math doesn't Lie.

Again you are assuming that we know all there is to know about math and science. This is the same assumptions the people who said flight was impossible made. I am not arguing that we are being visited by little men from mars, nor am I arguing that one day we can have this discusion with Spock on the USS Enterprise. My argument is simply that we don't know everything. There is a lot out there, even on our own planet, yet to be discovered. There are ocean depths we have never explored. Just because something is impossible today does not mean there would be some groundbreaking discovery making it impossible tomorrow. If we know all there is to know why are we bothering to explore the solar system, the galaxy, the ocean? Why do we have scientists studing the very theorys and mathematic laws you mentioned? If we have this stuff down pat, why are we trying to learn more? It is because we do not know it all, and can make no absolute rulings as to the possiblity of these things. They ARE impossible today with the physical laws and mathematics as we understand them, but that doesn't mean we won't learn new stuff tomorrow or the day sfter.

I will never ridicule anyone for something they have seen. I know I have seen some lights in the sky I could not identify, so I can understand how you feel now.
I don't believe we are alone in the universe. I think it is just a matter of time before the government has to come to terms to let people know things like Roswell were real. |

Because we are Human, and it is Human Nature to want to KNOW, look I'm not against what your're saying, it's just from what we've learned so far such things are very dangerous to Organic things and experiencing them would undoubtably kill anything trying them...people think Teleportation will one day be possible, yet fail to realize the process of dematerialization would kill them anyways, it's these misunderstandings I'm trying to point out.

What is the relevance of My Degree? Would it make my Arguments more valid? I don't care to share those things as I also post from work and all personal info is a no/no. I will say I deal in Particle Physics, as that is as vague enough as I can get.

I guess that just makes us both over opinion blowhards who like to argue, doesn't it? |
