So I have heard lots of Tankers upset when our beloved GI JOE figures keep increasing in price at brick and mortar stores. I found some old MOC wrestling figures of mine from 1999 that cost $3.99 each at Target, Walmart, Kmart back then :-(
Now wrestling figures are $12-18 each. Went into a sports card shop and they are taking orders for the new 2013 Baseball Topps Tribute hobby box. I about fell to the floor when I saw the asking price. (1) 5 card pack contains either (1) autograph or (1) "relic" card. These relic cards were huge in 1999 when NFL, MLB, NBA started doing them. Now they are pretty lame. Especially when there were reports that the "game used" jersey, bat, helmet etc were Not "game used" and just pieces of replica jerseys you could buy at a mall. (1) 5 card pack costs $49.95 One hobby box that contains......(6) packs of cards costs...... $289.95 :-0 Almost $300.00 for (6) packs of baseball cards I will prefer the hobby of action figures and pay $10.00 over a $50.00 pack of baseball cards. |

They totally cut their own throats with all that crap. ^^^ I mean, yeah - "cards" are becoming a thing of the past, but all that gimmicky crap put it on the fast track. |

$300 dollars for a box of cards is absurd.
I can understand the price of the wrestlers. If something in the 1:18th scale has a cost of $10 dollars, something the size of a wrestler (which includes some sort of accessory) does sound about right at the $18 dollar mark.

I see the sports cards section at Target by the checkout line... never saw anyone checking out that section though... like ever. Except me... today... out of curiosity went to have a look-see. Holy crap... a small pack of cards cost 5 bucks now... and that was the medium range one... cheapest I think was 3 bucks and the expensive ones were 10 bucks. Crazy.

Most collectible card types: NFL, MLB, NBA if you buy a hobby box you get 1-2 autos and a relic per box. That is their big "prize" to suck in collectors.
Even cards like WWE, UFC, and TV shows have 1-2 autos per box. But my thing is if you spent $389.00 on a box of 2013 Topps you could get 1 auto or 1 relic. What if you were the poor sap that only got a "relic" card. Almost $400.00 for a piece of some MLB players jersey. No Thanks. |

I still remember one time though... I was at a card shop in the early 90's and this guy paid $50 for a single pack from an untouched box of 1986 Fleer Basketball cards. He opened the pack in the store and everybody gather around to see if he got it or not... and he did... in the pack was a mint 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card. Everybody was like in awe. LOL. BTW... I remember paying 6 bucks for a Donruss Jose Canseco Rookie card at a local card show one time and thinking I just spent a whole lot of money for one card. LOL.
