Hi all,
I’ve been registered here since 2007 and see a ton of familiar names, but I never did my GTKY thread because I belong to so many different sites (both G.I. Joe and non), that I never really had time to browse everyones. However, I met some great people at this year’s JoeCon who are members here, and they encouraged me to do a formal introduction. So here it is: My name is Chris, I'm 39, and I'm from South Central Wisconsin. I've been collecting G.I. Joe since 1982, and I’ve been active in the online and real-world community for over a decade. I’m an admin at Sightings, a moderator at JBL, and the Editor-In-Chief at Declassified. I also head up the The Declassified Report magazine we give out free every year at the JoeCon. From 2002 - 2007 I was a “Completionist Collector”, but midway through the 25th Anniversary line I stopped. I was getting fed up with so many repaints, rehashes, and “Vomit Characters”, that I finally broke the completion mentality and only bought what I really liked. (That lowered my collecting about fifty-percent!) I also used to troop build: formerly 20 of each trooper type, then ten, now it’s down to two or four. As much as I like seeing droves of Cobra troops ready for battle, I don’t play with my toys anymore---haven’t since I was a kid, so large numbers of troops just displayed are impractical for me, as my space is fairly limited. So now I mostly collect for personal satisfaction, enjoyment, and knowledge; not for monetary value or rarity per se. Granted I have some very rare and expensive pieces in my collection, but I was never a MOC/MIB collector and I never will be. My own personal philosophy is: a toy is made to be played with, or at the very least, manipulated or handled. If I wanted something to merely look at, I’d buy a painting or focus on the art aspect. I completely understand the MOC/MIB philosophy and the justifications, but it just doesn’t work for me. Outside of G.I. Joe, I also collect Thundercats, Exo-Squad, and select lines of Transformers, Sky Commanders, and M.A.S.K., but not to the level of ‘Joe. My nickname of "Werecat" should be obvious---I'm a cat person. I've studied lycanthropy and therianthropy as a serious pursuit for over 25 years, and I'm a regional expert on the subject. So the notions of werecats or cat-people are right up my alley. Although genetically I don't think I have any feline DNA, I'm told that I'm mostly Korean and Norwegian, with a bit of French and Japanese thrown in for good measure. I’m a student of the occult and ancient philosophies, and I’m a practitioner in Unconventional Totemic Shamanism in a feline current. (Think Eastern European shamanism, not Native American Indian.) In my pathworkings I also use Chaos Magic(k), "Shapeshifting" via Guising, Sigilism, Hermetics, Seidr, Hamr, Gematria; and I dabble with the healing aspects of Pow-wow (Pennsylvania Dutch folk magic) and Hoodoo. I also have a great interest in Quantum Mechanics and Sacred Geometry, and you’d be surprised at how well magic(k) and science actually fits together into one single whole. I graduated from college with a degree in English and a minor in Fine Arts. Professionally I'm a licensed police officer, free-lance writer/editor, and a business manager. Writing however, is my true love. I'm an award winning and published free-lance writer (both academically and commercially). As a shameless self-promoting plug, I recently appeared in a new book that came out called Real Wolfman: True Encounters In Modern America by Linda Godfrey. I also guest-starred in the S:1,E:17 episode of the Discovery Channel Kids show, Mystery Hunters. I played the character ‘Tom’. In my free time I’m a voracious reader, but I also enjoy sketching, painting, reading, shooting, customizing ‘Joes, working out, Tae Kwon Do (Chung Do Kwon style), biking, hunting, occasionally playing video games, and even less frequently, watching the TV. I'm also a former first generation "perky" goth, but every once and a while I still enjoy dressing up and dancing at the clubs. And yeah, that tall guy with short hair at the 2013 con with the black nail polish was me. ;)

Werecat! Long time, my good man. I've known you for what seems like forever, but in a different life I suppose (well, different screen name and different boards, but you get the jist).
It's great to see an "old timer" around the Tank. Enjoy your stay buddy! -Erick |

Hi there, Werecat. That's quite a bio! Way more interesting than what I'm all about, lol.
I would say "Welcome to the 'Tank", but it appears you've been here a long time! So, I'll just say "glad to see you posting"! Oh....and I like that statement in your signature. Very true. |

The Pink Lamp is still around. In fact, it was at JoeCon this year. ;)
