I've never gotten a look when I have a hand basket or cart. I believe I may have received a look when I'm just in my person looking in the aisles.......
Then again, i could care less what drones think.

I haven't noticed anything with parents or kids, but one thing that does drive me nuts is the OVERBEARING customer service that I seem to attract. I'm talking about the "Is there anything I can help you find?" question coming from every single employee that is anywhere near me. It's so blatant that they've been trained to engage anyone for security reasons, and it's insulting for someone just minding their own business. I mean, some of them are just doing their job, and I try to be friendly, but I'm a grown man...... I know how to ask for help if I need it. It bugs me if they ask me (as I'm walking down a main aisle with the things I came for....do I look like I'm having trouble finding something?) yet completely ignore some woman with a cart taking forever browsing in the aisle right next to them. I've gone to Toys R Us before, and had 3 people ask me if I needed help between the entrance and the Joe aisle!!! Seriously.....step up your damn security and quit hassling innocent customers. We're not stupid, and it is insulting.

Okay, I'm a single guy with no kids in his late 20's and I toy hunt frequently at various stores like Wal Mart, Target, Toys R Us, etc. One thing I've noticed over the years is just how weirded out people, specifically parents with their kids, on toy aisles get by my presence. And for the longest time I haven't cared, just minded my own business.
I mean I can see where they come from...I'm a 6'4" slightly overweight white guy who quietly enters toy stores and goes up and down toy aisles, so, yeah sure even though I don't have kids I understand why a few parents glare or get nervous when I walk in. And like I said, for the longest time I haven't cared about this... But lately it's gotten out of hand. Maybe it's because it's Christmas break, and all the kids are out shopping with parents, or maybe it's the fact I've been working out more lately and just look that extra bit more menacing, or maybe both. It's gotten so bad to the point where, like the other day at TRU, I was standing on an aisle quietly sifting through the Transformers pegs, until all of a sudden I hear a Mom at the end of the aisle screaming "BILLY!!!! Come here now, now, HURRY!!!". I then casually look around and realize there's a little kid standing right next to me, who I honestly had no idea was even standing there until the screaming lunatic down the aisle burst my eardrums with her shriek. And as if that wasn't bad enough guess who heard the screams and came around the corner to see what was going on...my neighbor's wife, who's known me since I was 10, and has always been cordial and nice and a very overall friendly neighbor to me and my family over the years. She sees me first, smiles and says hi, and I return the favor, but then she sees the mom down the aisle talking to her kid and pointing at me, and my neighbor then looks at me and abruptly says goodbye. Now, the other day I drove home and my neighbor's wife was out in the yard and I waved while pulling in the driveway as usual and she didn't even look at me and wave back like she always does....I guess now she thinks I'm a creep So having said that, I begin this discussion to ask, who else out there is sick and tired of being villainized at toy stores by parents because you are a single grown man buying toys? The story above is only the most recent, and one of the worst I might add of the many many stories I have from over the years of toyshopping as an adult. And I know a lot of you reading this are parents yourselves who probably take your kids with you while you hunt, so while I appreciate your participating in this discussion, this thread is more geared to those who toy shop alone as a single grown man and want to vent their frustrating experiences also But there is no need to freak out about it like she did, unless you actually made contact with the kid. I get this even when trying to help parents who look lost trying to figure out what is best to buy their kids ... offer help, and even after you do, they still act like you are a bad guy with a bag of candy for their kids. Now as for your neighbour, if she has known you that long and makes a judgment with little to no info on the situation, then to hell with her. People like that are a waste of space.

Also, you could just flat out tell the lady that freaked out that statistically her Husband is waaaaaay more likely to molest her child than some stranger in a store. Heh....

As for my neighbor's wife, I'm not too worried about it. I've actually seen her while toy hunting on a few occasions before this incident, and I think that overall she'll realize that I'm just an adult action figure collector and not a creep. And if she doesn't I'll just talk to her and explain to her my side of the situation.

You're guilty of being a man! Just kidding. But if you're travelling alone on a plane and seated next to a child, you will be moved to another seat. True story. That's gender discrimination and assumes all men are pedophiles. I get how you feel. Like you, I shop alone and get self-conscious about it.
It's messed up and it only ends up bad for the people with those assumptions, because any person of any gender, ethnicity, or demographic, whatever all possess the same ability to committ crimes or cause harm in my book. I'm not saying I think everyone's a criminal, I just think that if you're gonna be one of these people that's paranoid about someone victimizing you or your loved ones, then they shouldn't be so narrow minded about who they fear.

But hmmm, ,maybe that's why I come off as threatening, I do tend to move fast when walking through stores, maybe these people misinterpret my ninja swiftness for criminal swiftness... Regardless I'm on the same page with you, I could care less about what the majority thinks of me. It only starts to bother me when they act on their false presumptions, like that mom in the toy store the other day, and their actions result in my publicly looking like something I'm not. That's when it gets under my skin

But at the same time, sometimes, I'd have to ask to put people on the spot. Like the AP guy (Assets Protection) at Target used to bug me all the time while I was working electronics. He'd ask me to go "customer service" (as he called it) suspected shoplifters, while he would watch them respond like he was some kind of human lie detector.

I feel your pain dude ... Im married, kids, but because im 6ft with long hair and a beard like Willie from Duck Dynasty, people seem to judge me instantly. If their kids are around, I leave it be, to be honest, you REALLY don't know who you can trust in todays world, so I understand.
But there is no need to freak out about it like she did, unless you actually made contact with the kid. And I agree, if you see kids leave it be, like if I turn and head down an aisle and see there's a kid or two by themselves looking at figure's right next to the figure's I wanted to look at, I just move on to the next aisle or go look at video games. And if I'm in a rush I just leave the store and come back later. And no, thankfully, I've never come into contact with any kids. Once some kid was goofing around and ran into me, but his dad was right there and saw the circumstances of the situation and realized exactly what happened, and didn't sweat it. As for my neighbor, I'm really on counting on her just forgetting about this, she's a nice lady and she's always trusted me in the past. If worse comes to worst, I'll just talk to her casually about it one day

Lol, yeah, but that chick seemed loopy, I mean way more crazy than a mom should be. If I told her that she might go home and stab her husband or something
