NYT: NYPD cop's photo helping barefoot man warms hearts - US news - The New York Times | NBC News
Goes to show how easily the good anyone does can be overlooked, when all we look for is the bad in everything.

Not only did he "hide" the shoes after being given them for "fear" of his life, he was then quoted asking where his "piece of the pie" was after his picture was taken and used without his permission.
It was FURTHER revealed that this guy is not homeless and lives on welfare with an apartment in Brooklyn? that is paid with rent vouchers. |

I love how almost every following post completely proves the OP's point.

Yep, Jinx was right. There’s a lot of cynicism in this world. I had heard about the story on the radio, but I didn't pay to much attention to it. That was the case; up until I kept hearing people talk about this man hiding his boots. I got into a discussion about it, and I read about what he had to say. I wasn't sure what to make of it. On one hand, I could see why people were skeptical about what he was saying, but on the other I do believe that what he said could happen as well. Even if he did get rid of them, it shouldn't matter to anyone. It should only matter to him, and maybe the cop that spent his money on them. It's his boots and he can get rid of them if he pleases.

To me, it's not so much what the homeless guy did with the boots; the OP had it exactly right. We are constantly inundated with bad news and I think the world is a poorer place for it. What resonates with me is that this is a situation that people pass by every day and don't notice or care. There are tons of disadvantaged/homeless people where I live and I've done my fair share of passing it by or ignoring it, I'm ashamed to admit. But the fact that this cop did such a small act of kindness for someone that is marginalized or scorned is definitely inspiring. It's that small moment of private compassion, without any ulterior motive, is what I take away from this story and maybe it resonates with people because there is some small lesson to be learned there.
