Any UFC fans here, or MMA in general?
2009 Speculations? Well, UFC 93/94 are both this month, so I'll get started with my picks, not to brag or anything, but I am to date 85% correct with picking the winners for the last 7 events. UFC 93 Rich Franklin vs. Hendo - I don't see Rich having any edge over Henderson other than looks. Henderson is the better wrestler, striker, and is physically stronger. No way this is going to the distance, Henderson by KO or submission easily. I'm still kicking myself for not getting in on the betting with the lines were even. Mark "The Hammer" Coleman vs. Mauricio Shogun Rua - Again, much like the Rich/Hendo fight, I don't see Shogun having any real edge here, he's slow, idiotic, and borderline washed up. I don't see this one going any different than their first fight, with Coleman having his arm raised victoriously. UFC 94 BJ Penn vs. GSP This isn't really a fight, but rather a formal ceremony in crowning the new welterweight champion, BJ Penn. Realistically GSP has very little chance here, his best bet would be a lay and pray type strategy, but that sounds easier than done, think about it, 25 minutes on the ground with a world class BJJ practitioner, LOL, good luck with that man. Thoughts? |

Well I to am a fan of UFC and MMA and am glad to welcome you to the Tank!
I see Rich Franklin getting back to his old style of demonating and think he will find a way to take Henderson down As for Coleman he is the man and will win this fight with ease or at least I think he will! GSP should not be under estimated by any means and I think he will give Penn a rude awakening with a smashing defeat. GSP has figured out how to develope into a new and different fighter!! |

Hendo 2nd round TKO, I'm being generous
Not really a Shogun fan, but he'll probably catch Coleman in a submission. (I rather see Mark break his arm again) Penn = Greatest of all time, Win by KO |

Thoughts? Shogun will destroy Coleman. If anyone is washed up, it's Coleman. Coleman has only fought once, back in October 2006 against Fedor since that Shogun fight. He's 45 years old. Shogun is 28, still in his prime. He's 4-1 in his five fights since the one with Coleman. Coleman won by a freak accident when Shogun tried to plant his hand when taken down by Coleman. Plus, Shogun went into the Griffin fight with an injury, looking slow and out of shape. He's 100% healthy now. I don't think the Griffin fight is indicative of Shogun's abilities. The old Shogun should be back, and he should beat Coleman no problem. |

Penn stole a round??? What fight were you watching? Did you see GSP's face after the fight? All GSP could do in rounds 2 and 3 were take BJ to the mat, he couldn't hold him there or do any type of ground work. BJ kept getting up. The first round showed BJ is good on his feet, he didn't attempt any submissions when they were on the ground in the next 2 rounds because he wanted to show he could win by his standup. If the scoring were different, as quite a few feel it should be, non-effective takedowns wouldn't be scored highly and that match may have been decided differently.

Coleman's pretty damn old, but he's still in great shape, and if he comes in well prepared, he's going to give Shogun a good fight, he always has a good showing. Not really sure what the deal with Shogun is, he was a beast in Pride, but then looked like a complete amateur against Forrest, I mean it wasn't like a lucky punch that Forrest slipped on him, he completely dominated Shogun, the at the time #1 (or 2) LHW in the world for 3 rounds straight and then went on to submit him. That's a serious upset.
I just can't see Shogun rebounding from that. |

Shogun had a lucky stint in PRIDE FC over in Japan. The UFC exposed him for what he was/is....overated. I hope COLEMAN beats his chest in until it's a pile of bleeding mashed potatos.
I am a huge BJ PENN fan and I think he will pull off the win. |

I know how the scoring goes...but in competitive wrestling you also get points for escapes, although for some reason in MMA you do not. Also one of the ways to score is "effective" striking. I'm hoping BJ comes out and looks like he did against Sherk and Pulver. For some reason I just really really do not like GSP or Sylvia.

Looking at UFC 93 Lytle and Davis should be a good fight.
