Does anyone have or know how to insure their collectables? I bought a house last year and I want to add on to my home owners policy ( I collect toys, comics, rare books and artwork, guitars, and have quite a few other highly valuable items!) but I am unsure how to do so! I had a fire scare last summer and I know that god forbid something happens, home insurance is only 5 or 10 grand, just enough for some furniture and some clothes so I want to beef up my policy.
Anyone......? |

Collectibles Insurance - Securing today's treasures from tomorrow's tragedy
Not sure little plastic army men are what they have in mind, but if you get an estimate and pay the premiums I guess they'd cover it.

You could try a rider on your home owners that's what I had to do for pretty much the same resons. There are some specialty insurance companies that do toy collections but they are pricey and it's a pain to constantly keep your inventory updated with insurer.

Dollar amounts is what they will cover. Specialty insurers are a different lot.

I wouldn't try too get your G.I. Joe's insured as outside of 4-5 US figures and 10-15 rare International figures, they're not really worth anything

This is something you need to consult with your insurance carrier!

My friends house burned down, homeowners only covers so much, plus most of the big companies have a set list of what they will pay, for example they think a queen bed should cost 500, so they don't care if you spent 3500.00 on your bed, they will give you 500 to replace it. I do not really want to insure my joes, but my art books and my 15 guitars ( got another one) and all my airbrush and tattoo equipment, plus I have another 10,000 worth of climbong and outdoor gear in the basement. I think our policy only covers 20,000 -30,000 and that would probably just about cover clothes and furnature for me, my wife and daughter. I need to add soem more coverage. |
