oh dear god.
that guy...... the kinda big guy who wears a nintendo controller around his neck, has a NES that he made into a lunchbox and speaks with a little girls voice...with said beard to his balls...and he smells like a sack of dirty wet assholes. and they are worried about me stealing and/or scaring kids. I understand stereotyping, pre-judging, society, all that. I agree with a lot that has been said here also. I don't agree with the practice, but doesn't change the fact that it exists. Thing is, is that we are in a college town. There are people with tats and piercings everywhere, either in college or not. Not to mention, more than half of that staff is younger, say 20's. We have lots of collectors here as well. The people at TRU have seen people like you, me, Eopie, etc REGULARLY shop in their stores. That is why this behavior from this TRU's staff is surprising to me.

Y'know, weird thing about where we live is that it is a college town, but like I said before, lotta Bush votes in the room.
Lotta hippies here who like to be liberals on the weekend and when its fashionable. And I guess I should chime in on all of the norm vs. antinorm drama: It is what it is, I dress and look the way I do because its how I feel comfortable, does it raise eyebrows from time to time? Sure, but unlike the angsty teen assholes who want to shock people because their parents don't love em enough or because sometimes it is in fact fun to laugh at the straights, some of us are willing to have an open dialogue about why we do the crazy stuff we do. BUT, with that said, when a guy in a GWAR shirt asks the suit why he feels compelled to wear a monkey suit and dance for the man every day, he shouldn't become an asshole, but rather explain why his beliefs lead him to that lifestyle. Oh and everyone should take a few minutes today and mourn very loudly that Ron Ashton, guitarist for the Stooges has passed away.....and that loud mourning should be side A of the first Stooges album.

i see haha. well check out dogwood sometime if you like hardcore stuff.
this thread is 10 times longer than i ever imagined. i will admit when i have been in stores over the years and wear "dress" clothing i tend to get helped or asked if i can be helped very quickly. Yet when i was in the same place/store dressed casually or just "everyday" type wear i have been snubbed more often then not. catch what i am saying anyone? Yes its sad but true. speaking of punk...officer negative is a band worth checking out for sure.

wow, i cant believe this thread is still going, lol i guess we all have felt stereotyped in some way. i swear employees stear me down like im about to steal something when im joe hunting, mabe its because i come to the store so many times in the same week and never find anything, so i walk out emty handed but its not my fault they dont restock the shelves enough.

a whole shopping cart full of groceries .i put the reciept in my pocket ,then seconds later this no english speaking mf ask me for my reciept. i said what? in disbelief as all my stuff is bagged and i am on my way out the door. he says "your reciept". i firmly stated "FUCK Off!". i have been waiting for this moment. this kind of thing really piss's me off. so i walked out the door just waiting for security to come hasstle me. but they dont. i cant believe people wast my time with such crap. i mean ,what could they do? i am a paying customer.i would love so see some walmart jerk tryand get rough with me because i didnt show a reciept that was in my pocket for a recent purchase. i would do the same at toys r us or anywhere else, especially if i got hasstled walking out the door of a toystore if i purchased something or not. |

I hate it too. I waited like a good sheep one time and waited, but the person checking the receipt just stood there talking and talking and talking to some other customer. When I had enough I just went around to leave. Then this person has the nerve to say sir, sir I need to check your reciept. I tried my jedi mind trick on her, but it did not work. The person insisted on seeing my receipt. So I finaly told the person I dont have time for her to BS with ppl and if thats what you gonna do then I am just going to leave. If you want to check my receipt, starting to walk away, then you will have to come and get it.

you know I have been bothered over the past several years with situations like this myself. I mean being stereotyped because of how I am dressed at different times.
I thought about this in the past couple of weeks and thought about starting up a thread to see if anyone has ever been in a store (in mall or where ever) at different times when they just happened to be dressed differently each time...due to work, school or whatever and, got treated totally different when they were more "dressed up" then the time before...or vice versa. As a bit of a side note, I was off duty one day and walking into a TRU. As usual I was dressed in camo shorts, had a shaved head and my Bad Religion sweatshirt on. As I was walking to the door some dude races out of the store followed by two employees. These guys are hauling @ss towards a busy street. A manager comes out and I ask what happend. The manager replies the guy tried to use a stolen credit card and when the card was denied the suspect grabbed the card and fled. At this time the suspect must have seen the busy traffic and turned around toward the store. As he's running through the parking lot I thought to myself, "Hey dumb@ss, you've always wanted to make an off-duty arrest, here's you chance." I quickly caught up to this guy, yelled "Stop! police, get on the ground." He started to reach into his pocket so I tackled him. We go to the ground and a crowd is gathering watching two "dirtbags" roll around. Well the guy gives up and we march him into the store to wait for the police to show up. The funniest part of my too long story is that some of the goofs who usually follow me around, won't leave me alone now. They thought it was pretty cool and the manager says something like, "wow, thanks. Hey, if you even need anything from here come see me and we'll take care of you." I laughed thinking that I just hit the jackpot as I was a hardcore Star Wars collector at the time. If only GI Joe was out then. Not that I ever asked for free stuff from there, but it would have been cool. |
