I have used both, and am comfortable with both systems.
That said, I find Windows to be more functional, customizable, and easier to use. Macs are great if your doing more artsy stuff for media professionally, but for the uses of the average individual, there isn't a huge difference other than personal preference. |

I honestly don't see the difference in functionality between the 2. |

I've been a designer for nearly 10 years now and haven't touched a PC since I started. And the 5 or so places I've worked haven't used a single PC for anything besides the account people and testing websites (for how they'll perform on a PC)... Maybe a few programmers here and there. Even our 3D modellers use Macs and Maya or other Mac-friendly 3D software, and not 3DMax. Not one designer I've worked with in 10 years has used one. I don't know how you manage it, but Macs are the standard in our field. You're the exception, I guess. |

With my experience, PCs crash and on a Mac, the software crashes. It's a much more stable OS. Not to mention that viruses don't totally destroy Macs within the first 6 months of owning them.

I don't really have issues with them because I know where I'm going and don't click on suspicious things. (but I usually end up having to fix friends and relatives machines that don't know better...) |

I used to love my old Mac G3 with the hockey puck mouse. That was the best mouse design EVER.
Been on PC for the past few years though... since I'm working at a 3D studio attached to an architecture firm. 3DSMax / VRay all the way. Don't really touch Maya since I'm doing mostly Arch Vis work. I prefer Mac though. If they were'nt so darned expensive... and if I didn't already have CS4 for PC, I would consider changing back over. Gets expensive switching out all that software. As far as stability goes - My Mac's have crashed just as much as my PCs... and the Mac was the only computer I ever lost a hard drive in. Completely burned up the motherboard in it too... almost started an electrical fire. I did get a new G4 out of it though. Last edited by captain mal; 01-16-2010 at 06:19 PM.. |
