OUCH. Sad to see them go since they are on my list of stores to stop into when I'm at Great Lakes Crossing but It was only a matter of time. Besides polyphenus' reasons, KB Toys gave me numerous headaches in consumer math. I'd go in to the store and see new figures that I haven't bought yet, see a sale of Buy 2 Get the 3rd Free or Buy 3 Get 1 Free and I'd be standing there with one guy on my shoulder say BUY BUY BUY and another telling him to shut up while he figured out how much I'd be saving which usually turned resulted in NOTHING.

The closest KB to be is about 1 hour away, and it is an outlet shop. There used to be a KB in the local mall here 5-6 years ago and it went out of business. It sucks it's closing, but on a positive note, TRU now will have less competition and hopefully will stay in business longer.
Hopefully, I can get the DCU wave 3 exclusives at a KB before it closes.

That's sad. It's been a long time since I've seen one, but apparently there's one near Oakland out here.
All the ones near where I used to live in North Carolina closed years ago. It's a shame, I always loved stopping by as a kid. That means the only "toy" stores at all in malls is Spencer's, which, let's face it, isn't THAT kid friendly. Pet stores in malls fell to the wayside years ago too. That and toy stores were always the highlight of our mall visits when I was forced to shop at Dillards, JCPenny, etc. with my mom as a kid. I'd say it's probably online sales more than stores like Target or Wal-Mart taking the shares recently (although the Target/Wal-Mart blow did start the fall pre-internet-shopping if you ask me). |

Yes.There could be alot of store closings after the holidays when retail is slow....I saw Linens N Things closing their doors,a couple Rite-Aids were closed down,Circuit City is next, throw in the recession and that spells trouble. All depends on the earnings in the final quarter.Even though I don't shop their anymore kinda sad to see another one of the major toy stores from childhood go.Anyone remember ChildWorld back in the day?

I haven't bought a toy at KB's in ages (I think I bought a couple of POTF2 Star Wars figures there back in '95). Honestly, they should have closed their stores down about 7 or 8 years ago. Their prices were always higher than most of the other retailers that carried the same product. I do have fond memories of going in there as a kid and buying Star Wars, GI Joe and He-Man figures. My Zartan, Mutt, Blowtorch and Firefly figures all came from KB's (back in '84).

But TRU currently operate 585 TRUs in the US, and according to toysrus.com, "more than 670 Toys R Us stores and 20 Babies R Us stores in 33 countries outside of the United States," and they're starting to open up Super Toys R Us stores in the US, so hopefully, the company's on the rebound. |
