How we were able to land a man on the moon and get him safely back to Earth with 1960's technology I will never know. Those early astronauts were like the bravest people on Earth... not just Apollo, Mercury and Gemini too. Neil Armstrong was truly the best of us.

He made his last small step for mankind into the waiting arms of God. Now he is with our other Astronauts telling tall tails and swapping stories exploring the Heavens.
I was in a clothes store shopping with my wife, when I was serfing the web, got the news as it broke. I was trying so hard not to cry right then, (kinda failed a little). When I was a kid, I told my folks I wanted to walk on the moon like Niel did. Worked to get into the Navy or Air Force so I could go into NASA from there to fly the Shuttle. And all because I had asthma for a few years when I was little disqualified me from enlisting and shot down my NASA dreams. This was back in the 80's when any ailment you might have had, even if it was gone and never re-occurred, still a no go. All I had left to do was sign the paper work and leave for basic after graduation. All those NASA guys were my heros growing up. So many of the REAL men and women I looked up to as rolemodels and heros are passing on more and more quickley, and they aren't being replaced. Thank God we had them when could.

I get so annoyed when people in the olympics get branded as "heroes" for playing games
Neil was THE genuine article. *Every astronaut on the Mercury, Gemini & Apollo missions risked their lives to advance our understanding of how the universe works, with no thought of personal gain. *This man was a true hero, in every sense of the word. *He was unique in history and can never be replaced... the end of an era. I cant remember when I first remebered seeing the grainy video of Neil saying that famous line " ...One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." To this day, it is the epitome of exploration and the human spirit to me.
Godspeed Neil Armstrong and thank you for all that you have given us. |
