Hell, the doctors told me my condition is nothing to worry about even after they built up my fear of it. It's called a syrinx. After reading all the things about it, my family and I thought I was going to be on my deathbed soon.
They said just wait it out for a few months to a year and then have it rechecked. Good thing I had good insurance as those tests were expensive. They thought it was linked to my migraines, although they still don't have a clue. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted, means a lot to me |

Well, when you are surrounded by your peers that know what you are going through, it's sincere. Trust me, I've had more support from the online community than the fresh n blood friends of mine.

You gotta get off the codine. I was on them for a long time. I had a pylnidonal cyst emoved from my tailbone 4 times. I am now taking methadone. It is alot better than taking several codines a day. I take 1 5mg tablet in the morning, and no pain.

First of all, Glad you are out of the "ward" I am sorry that i didn't find this thread any sooner. I am an anesthesiologist and see people pretty regularly with pain issues.
Many people say that spinal taps are amongst the most painful procedures. That is true in most places, because the physicians doing them may not perform the procedure enough to be "good" at them (Yes there is a difference between being capable at performing a procedure and being "good" at it) Most are either ER docs/Medicine Docs, or neurologists. If it felt like they were digging back there then they were probably having a hard time. That happens to the best physicians from time to time, but If you want it done best I would get and anesthesiologist to do it. 1. they might give you a little sedation to make it less unpleasant 2. They are the needle "experts" They perform spinal injections for surgery, and labor epidurals for the Moms-to-be. 3. Most paralysis associated with spinal taps and epidurals is related to bleeding around the spinal cord constricting the blood supply to the spinal cord and cause paralysis (1 in 250,000 cases) Rarely (although it has happened) is any damage done by the needle as the site in th lower back used is lower than where the spinal cord ends! Don't ya love the Tankers... great community. Yeah Trakker does grow on ya. There's a great custom in that figure somewhere. The green on the backpack remains a mystery unless they were getting nostalgic for a condor cycle/copter |
