I think there is most definitely life on other planets. Intelligent life? It's certainly possible. There are billions of stars in a single galaxy and there are a billion galaxies in the universe so the odds are in favor of life on other planets.
Do I think they have been here to Earth? No. If aliens did come to Earth I think it's a good bet they would have evolved past organic matter and could very likely be robotic. Look at the direction we are going. Computers and machines keep becoming a bigger and bigger part of our lives while at the same time getting smarter and smarter. That’s all happened in the last 100 years. Can you imagine 1000 years from now what it will be like? I think it's very possible that an intelligent species from another planet could either have been taken over by the intelligent robots they created or found a way to upload themselves into machines so that they no longer need their flesh and bone bodies anymore. Of course this type of thinking would have to be for a civilization that had been around for hundreds if not thousands of years longer then we have. There are so many more variables than the size of the universe and the number of planets that the odds of there being life out there are pretty slim.
If lighting struck again, and another planet capable of supporting life did arise, then I would expect that the life on it would be a lot like ours because of evolution. |

I think life on other planets is probably pretty plentiful but intelligent life probably isn't.

That turned out not to be the case. They thought what they saw was left over bacteria but then found out that it wasn't or they couldn’t prove it was or something like that.

I have a problem with this line of thinking. Why would aliens be just like us? Different conditions and environments would create a different creature with different needs.
The best example I can think of are the bugs of Starship TRoopers. Judging by the science and not the quality of the film. Non-humanoid species invades the earth. The Roughnecks toon further explores their organic technology. Giant bugs can actually fly in space. The advanced alien must conquer theory is over-used. And the common thinking is if they are so advanced they must moved beyond simple emotions of kill and conquer. But that is so human. These are aliens. Like the bugs, what if their motives are far simpilier. They must find food and breeding grounds on our world. They could be driven by the imperative to breed. If first contact is ever made, I would be really disappointed in meeting Mr. Spock. Here's an interesting video by Stephen Hawking regarding aliens invasion. Stephen Hawking's Universe: Fear The Aliens : Video : Discovery Channel Here's a related article. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8642558.stm Kind of interesting. I mean relatively speaking it wasn't that long ago that a good portion of humanity had the mentality to explore and conquer. And, it still exists on this planet today as far as trying to control other people and their land in order to feed the need of energy and other resources. Is it really such a far fetched idea that if we could one day be the alien race that would go out in search of resources why couldn't a similar alien race already be at that stage of technology if they had developed and advanced long before us. To them maybe we are like simple insects that they would have no problem squishing. Last edited by sharky; 08-19-2012 at 03:39 PM.. |

Considering the amount of money they spent traveling to a lifeless planet in search of life you can rest assured they will find some type of "evidence" that there was once "life" there whether it's true or not.

I don't care about the rest of the galaxy I'm only concerned about what happens on earth.

I work with a guy who says there's an alien living at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. After talking to him we decided it probably wasn't really an alien that he had communicated with, but a being from another dimension.
