So another thread got me to thinking. I would LOVE for Hasbro to produce a 4in (isnt that the scale now?) Line of D&D Figures based on the Forgotten Realms Novels and Game Books.
These should be scale to the G.I. Joe modern era line and have similar packaging. Hasbro owns D&D now too so they could really pull this off. I would support this line as much as I do G.I. Joe. How about the rest of you? Just think about all the customization opportunities it would open up.

I dunno man.
As cool as it might be to have Drizzt, Wulfgar, Elminster, etc., in Joe scale...I'm not sure I could afford to go hard core into another line. It also seems that D&D fails every time the brand tries to cross out of RPGs or novels. Cartoon? Failure. Toys? Failure. Movies? Failure. Live action TV show? Failed to even produce a pilot. I think it is just too much of a niche product. I've been gaming (D&D and other games) for almost two decades. I just don't see it happening. Now if they made sort of...blank slate figures, just basic figure bodies, and accessory packs to sort of 'build your own' character, well, that'd be freaking incredible. But utterly, totally, completely impractical.

Don't get me wrong, I am all about the Forgotten Relms, but Hasbro is already pushing my toy spending limit with the Joes. So I had to vote no.

I'd buy tons of Forgotten Realms figures so long as they were reasonably priced and at least dozens of different characters were made - but that's not ever likely to happen, since like Irid70 says, D&D's too much of a niche product for a Forgotten Realms action figure line to be successfully mass-produced and offered at major retail stores. :/

I'd so buy whatever they made, so I voted a big old hells yeah.
But I also doubt it'll ever happen. As said above, too much of a niche product :-( |

If this ever did happen, I could only see picking up maybe a couple...and they would have to be pretty awesome. Too much money to get the Joes I want the way it is.

I would not be all that surprised if they would make action figures of their iconic characters - seeing how they need to recoup the loses from the great gamer schism (who could have known the fans would not shell out more money to replace the the replacement books that they did not even get the time to really brake-in).
If they did do it, I would not buy them, as I have a general dislike for the establish canon-heavy settings, the Mary Sue iconic characters, and all the bland novels. It also dont help that I'm a Grognard (old-timer) who is also disenfranchised with the usual Tolken-styled High Fantasy (I'm more into Robert E. Howard-styled Sword & Sorcery), and the newer DungoenPunk styled fantasy that is used in 4e by default. Plus, I already got a D&D action figure. |
