35 years later and there all of these wonderful stories about how this special movie touched peoples lives on a forum about a completely different franchise. It is hard to believe that at the time Lucas was trying sell this thing none of the major studios wanted to touch it with a ten foot poll. I wonder how many broken feet and tailbones there were from industry executives actually kicking themselves in their asses back in late 77.

I was too young to remember seeing it in the theater. I'm sure my brothers went, and I probably didn't go. I remember seeing ESB at the theater. The line to buy tickets was epic.
I do remember when Star Wars first came out on VHS tape for rent. It first was released to rental stores before the general retail release. This was back in the day when you had to leave a deposit of $70 or something. I believe that's what it costs for the rental company to buy them for rental purposes. I was lucky that my Dad was able to bring home the VCR they used at work over the weekends. VCRs were pretty expensive back then. They weighed a ton as well. Of course there was really no copy coding at that time. |

I saw it in 1977. I went to school after and the teachers made us light sabers out of rolled up construction paper. They broke pretty easily, but it was still cool that they let us play. Would teachers make kids light sabers today? Doubt it.
The Burger King glasses were awesome. I had all 12 at one point. Had a ton of figures and I remember getting into GI Joe and thinking how loose and wobbly they were compared to Star Wars figures. LOL |

I saw Ep. IV in the movies, but I know for a fact that it wasn't in '77 because that would've put me at 5 years old. So it must've been re-released some years afterward. I do remember Ep V and waiting all day for my to take me to go see it and that never happened. For some reason it took hella long for Ep V to get to cable.

And then it was on showtime. I remember that well. I already knew everything but still getting to see it finally was the shit. |
