Stealth fabric has been in development for over a decade. Clemson University had samples 10 years ago that could be embedded in fiberglass for cars and was undetectable to police radar, or so they claimed. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm just waiting on some sort of active camo. ;)

I liked the multicam uniforms I had in Afghanistan. They didn't hold up very well though. Not sure why they don't just issue those for daily wear to save development money.

They need to have that camo with little GI Joe symbols on them since ROC made it look so cool.

Honestly, I preferred my BDUs over my ACUs. I did like the desert boots better since they were low maintenance. Being Airborne, the only boots that need to be polished are my dress uniform jump boots, IMO. Anything else should be as low maintenance as possible. No starching uniforms, no polishing combat boots, etc.

The design, known as the Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP), has failed at doing what camo should do: Hide our soldiers. "If we can see our own guys across a distance because of it, then so can our enemy,"
I never understood the pixel camouflage, made no sense to me. BDUs is what we had in my days and it worked fine. Why mess with something that ain't broke?

You know, when the Marine Corps did the tests and trials for their digital camouflage (which was inspired by CadPat), which works unlike the UCP/ACU's, they offered the Army a chance to get on board and share the costs. After all the Army has deeper pockets. The Army declined.
Then, after the Marpat design was proven and chosen, the Corps offered the Army another chance to use it, but told them they would have to pay for it. Again, the Army declined. Now the Marine Corps is still using those same patterns and the Army is spending what will probably be another $5 billion to replace camouflage that didn't camouflage to begin with. I guess looking different is more important that actually being functional. Last edited by CornDog_The_Ninja; 07-11-2012 at 08:15 AM.. |
