Thanks, I would like to comment on this threads title.
Do we really OWN our dogs, or are they as much a part of our family as a Mother or Father, Sister or Brother, Son or Daughter? I don't veiw Louie as property, I could never trade him or sell him like I could my Joe collection. Can the title get changed to "Dog Lovers..."? Last edited by txbart; 11-05-2008 at 04:49 PM.. |

Don't have any currently, but I'm a dog owner at heart. I'm living in an apartment right now that doesn't allow them, but I'm in the military and will be going away in January anyway, so I'll have to wait until I get back. I've had dogs all my life though - my parents currently have a pug, jack russell and chihuahua that I like to think of as mine, even though they're a day's car ride away.

2 Husky mixes and a beagle for the wife. none of which can remain clean for more then 20min. I'll second the mad props for everyone who gets from shelters. thats where I've gotten all of mine since I was a kid and never had any problems.

Mos def, the rescue and the shelters are the way to go. especially for the troubled breeds. I was a little reluctant to adopt a 5 year old Doberman but it worked out and now I have a new friend

yeah it's weird cause in FL you can pick up a pure breed Husky from any shelter with no problems. it's sad really, all these folks get them down here and never expect them to shed in the heat.

I had a toy pommerianian. thing was smaller than my cat. She was like that furball thing from the dark crystal.
Got stuck with her during a divorce and well...she was pretty evil, but still kinda awesome. she became one with the force a few months ago. apartment still seems super empty without her here.

I have a 3yo fawn blackmask English Mastiff named Texas Ranger, but we call him TR for short. He is the most gentle and emotional 300lbs dog I've ever seen. I just got a German Rot, to replace our Tulska(R.I.P.). Tulska was a german rot my wife and I have had since '99, I had to put her down in June because of her hips displasia. My mastiff took it as hard as we did and I'm tearing up just writing about her. The new Rottie is named Walker and is about 10 weeks old, and we all love her but it's scary getting that attached to a best freind that's going to die in 10 or 12 years. Their compaionship and love is worth it. I love dogs and animals, but I can't stand or even hate 99% of humans on this planet.
