well... what about the other way around. My dad moved in w/my wife and I about 11yrs ago. We've got room, even bought a larger house so we have room for him, guests and my office... but it still feels like I'm living in his house sometimes!

I left my parents house at age 22 We didn't have a basement at that time. Due to financial problems stemming from the ending of a relationship I had to move back into my parents place with just what I could fit into my car Needless to say, I was starting over. This time however, my parents had moved and now had a basement. I got to live down there for about 2 years. It was a great time! I only had to worry about my car insurance and car payment and I was making about $450 a week. I started collecting Joes at this time too. My collection grew by leaps and bounds. I moved out on my own and not because my parents made me leave. I currently live with my fiancee in our own townhome.
I will in no way discredit someone for living in their parent's basement. There is always a reason for someone to do this and it not always because they are lazy. Some people have to deal with the hand dealt to them and some are helping out their parents, nothing to be ashamed of. Also something of note, way back in olden days and in some cultures, whole families live together including 3 generations worth. Nothing wrong with them |

Used to live in my parents basement. Living on my own since I was 20. Although, my current apartment is a sub level, almost basement like but with full size windows right against the ground.

You misunderstood me! What I was conveying is that one can spot a golddigger by observing her actions and her questions in regards to your personal finances. It would also be wised to take note of the places she likes to go to as well. And if she doesn't mind dining out at Mc D's, than you should be good to go.

I am a musician for a living, and travel a lot. So it dosen't really make sense to pay for a place for just me to live in, and pay for it when I'm gone for months at a time.

My parents don't even have a basement. My dad told me that if I moved back in after college, my options were the crawl space under the house or the horse stalls...
Fortunately, I found a great job. Though I do only live about 20 minutes away from them. |

Well I do live with my mom-in-law. My wife and I bought a house along with her parents so that we could take care of them as they got older. Her father has since passed away, but her mother lives with us and takes great care of my little girls while we work. We couldn't survive without her.

Moved out when I was 19. I'm 30 now and living with my beautiful wife of almost a year and our newborn daughter.
I, too, often wonder about the streotypical visage of a collector. Metallica t-shirt, Cheetoh encrusted finger, dribble of Moutain Dew on his acne infested chin thumbing thru the pages of the recent Toyfare getting a semi over the upcoming release of some female action figure. I have yet to see this guy. Certainly there must be a portion of our collecting community who fits this descriptio, but nowhere near as many as anyone would think. |
