Would like to think that I buck the stereotype: 33, married, one boy and one more coming next week, athlete, master's degree, own a house, and a great job in NYC....sick obsession with Gi Joe....by far, the most embarrassing secret in my life. Have actually considered building a dummy bookcase that rotates (they do exist for like 10 grand) to hid my Gi Joe room...maybe i do fit the stereotype?
I'm a normal guy...whatever that means... Good job, nice place, handy and so forth. Then I brought her home and she was surprised to see my collection, which I confined to my room to avoid the obvious questions from friends and family. Weird, how I hide my figure collecting, or choose to avoid the topic all together. Not like I play with my toys, but I sure to have tons of them and plan to continue collecting in the forseeable future. Perhaps not as much now that I'm a father, but still.

I am a real closet collector. My collection is actually in a closet. I have it all in a walk in closet. I don't have any extra room and the lady won't let me hang them all over the walls in our room. She finally gave in a little bit and let me put up shelfs to display my loose collection. She said I can hang 1 Rattler and 1 Conquest in our room, but I'm going to try to hang up one more of each. I still don't like my MOC collection in a closet...

Left at 17 for college, then 20 for the Marines, then came home at 24 afterwards to go to school. Left at 27 with my now wife and we live in an apt where my office is Joe central. Funny thing is upon meeting me at work, you wouldn't think that I fit the stereotypical collector(my brother of 34 does, he doesn't collect). I do own possibly 75-100 cartoon/comic t-shirts that I wear whenever, got comic stickers on my car and yes I play video games. My entire living room is decorated with comic movie posters. I think people don't pass judgement on me because of how I look and act. They actually want to talk about it. At home, my room at my parents house was all toys and I didnt care. When I met my wife, she was completely cool about it and actually wanted to learn about my interests. I now have her rockin comic tees and transformers sweatshirts, even teaching her to play Guitar Hero. I am lucky that she loves me for me.

I was about to write that I wished I lived in my parents basement like Chris Elliot in get a life, no bills and so forth but upon reconsidering there is no way I could ever hack it. I moved out at 18 and never looked back.

My book is all about how I have to live in my parents' basement since my toys have taken up my entire room (even my bed has been forced out!).

I moved back to Washington State from Philly nearly 2yrs ago. But now, I travel so much, I actually live in several other parents homes across the US. Now I find myself staying several days or weeks with my friends parents when I'm out on business or with In-Laws or even former neighbors parents. Weird, but it's fun to stay in touch with so many different people that were once a major part of my life. now I get to see them all a little more.

Crazy man, I was just about to lay a verbal smackdown on whoever brought back a 2+ year old thread, until I saw it was the OP. Full circle, my man.

moved out when I was 17. Lived with 4 friends, then 3, then a gf, then 1 friend and had to move back in with my parents when i was 22ish for a year or so. I racked up some legal problems and debt and such and just needed some time to mature a lil and get back on my feet. Sinch I was 23ish until now, I have lived on my own or with a gf and have never looked back.

39 and I haven't lived with my parents since I was 27, actually I only lived with them then because my ex wife cleaned me out in the divorce, I moved out the same year so techically I haven't lived with my parents since 21.
Granted there was inheritence with my dad's death at when I turned 35 that gave me a bunch of options, but that is beside the point. |
