LoL!
Well, you're right about that... Quote:
A vast majority Hardcore Punk from about 79-88 was far angrier than any Metal I've ever heard. But then again it's a lot easier too write songs about being angry about facist cops, asshole politicians and being a squater, than ya know satan and partying and Un Black Metal

Did You ever dig that band 'Nation of Ulysses'. They wer out of DC, and on Dischord. Kinda the last good thing at the end of an era if you ask me. I don't blame you if you don't dig em' they aren't for everyone, but I sure dug the hell out of em'.
Not there best but here they were

I would say it's about different -kind- of anger. Having grown up as a fan of both types of music, although admittedly leaning far more heavily toward metal and eventually getting to the point of not really liking much punk, I can appreciate both. I think, rather than being angrier, hardcore punk was more openly vitriolic. That doesn't mean it was, in fact, angrier. Just more obvious. It's also worth noting that true punk music comes from a sense of pure rebellion and a sort of claustrophobia directed at societal trends. Metal has something different going for it, because (and I don't mean to downplay the creativity involved in Punk music) metal has far more layers. Metal isn't just about rebellion and freedom, it's about power, masculinity, and sexuality. These themes, taken together, create something that isn't as overtly angry in style, but if you listen - there's a lot of exploding rage there. Also, if you move past the generic 'metal' and into areas such as Death and Black metal, or Grindcore and even Speed Metal; that's angry stuff. In many cases there's more outright explosive fury in one brutal black metal song than exists in the entire late '70s Punk counterculture. But again, oftentimes the anger in any form of music is dependant on experience. You'll 'feel' it more the more you actually identify with it. If you, just for example, don't identify with a disgust for Christianity and a struggle with powerful feelings of overt violence, it's possible that you'll often 'miss the message' in many Black and Death metal songs. Further, the music speaks on its own. Comparing almost any late '70s Punk song (in my experience) to almost any Black Metal song, the metal song is going to have a much more aggressive sound to it. The 'feel' of the music is just that different. Of course, that's all just -in my opinion-. Also - Alice Cooper sucked then, sucks now, and will always suck. And I like Alice Cooper. But they're about as amazingly perfect awesomesauce as Metallica. That is to say -- not at all worthy of the hype. |

I have listened to Rammstein and been a big fan since 1995 when Herzeleid hit and it was a great album. I must confess though there album's have been progressively getting better and better, but still it's a three way tie for my fav album Mutter, Reise Reise and Rosenrot. They are supposed to have a new album out soon and i can't wait. Speaking of new album's though Cradle of Filth's new one entitled Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder is out OCT 28 and it will be amazing I'm sure. Quote:

Mercyful Fate, King Diamond & Danzig are favs of mine and I have seen them multiple times.
I do however feel like true spirit of Metal is dying based on today's artists. |
