I doubt 100k goes as far as it used to, but there are people surviving off far less then that.

You don't work your butt off to get a 100k job so that you can live as though you only make 45 grand a year. There's no incentive to succeed if you're going to be raped in the butt in taxes.

Exactly why I think some people need to try to live on $20k a year for a while, gives you a real appreciation for money and how to use it more wisely.

i guess my whole point is this, i dont work my butt off so the owner of said company can make over 1mil a year and his buddies can make 100k while complaining about taxes and passing any of said losses off onto the guys at the bottom anyways.

not to be a jerk, but i know plenty of people who have came and left the company i work for because they work their but off for a fraction of that to sustain the lifestyles of the people at the top. While I understand this is the American way. I have also seen first hand the disconnect. When a senior management individual is asked directly how long they want us to carry the ball after our third pay cut in one year, and "he" states "i haven't had a pay raise in a year so what" it really shows the disconnect.

As for the comment about the manager's pay raise. That's a lack of people skills on the part of the individual you're quoting. A lot of managers have this issue, but those who think they can do better should invest the time and money to go to school, build up their resume and apply for his job. That's an option. I don't think anyone should feel sorry for people who are doing well, but they shouldn't demonize them either. Last edited by Headman; 03-22-2012 at 05:22 PM.. |

i agree it mostly due to living beyond ones means and competing with the Jones next door.you can get a nice house that perfect,or get a very nice house for way more.the nice house say costs $400 a month for energy and heat/ac,the other choice is over double.taxes will kill you.that 50k car cost more to insure and probably fuel than a 25k car.same with the house.
in the grand scheme of things a 100k family income isnt huge but is easily livable.my mom does taxes for people and there is one couple with 2 kids,a mortage and a small but sensible car payment.they have family income of under 24k but pay the bills and everyones fed and clothed. you dont need a big house,2 brand new cars, motorcycle and quads along with a vacation home you might go to 2 or three times a year. i do recall seeing a similar stroy but it was like "i make almost 300k a year and i'm barly making it!"now that was an absurd story.

I know a family of 6 that lives off one income, probably around 60k if that high.
And the post isn't about them earnign that much, it's about what they do with it. 100k isn't as much as it used to be, but there is no reason that a family of 4 can't live off it comfortably.
