You know, I love the GIJoe, Lego and Playmobil toy lines. Those are my main toy passions. I love most of their releases from the 1970s to this day. This Lego Medieval Castle here: http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=6080_1&v=z - will always be THE Lego castle for me. I do appreciate most of the changes these lines have gone through, but I seem to like the old ones better. But the same is not true for other toy lines.
I love the Kenner Star Wars line. But I find myself uncapable of loving the newer Star Wars releases... I know there are some great Star Wars toys out there, but I don't know... I guess it's the nostalgia thing up there in my head - and in my heart. Do any of you feel something similar? |

I love the title of this thread! lol
Sometimes I feel the same way. Ya know how most kids grew up with a little of every toy? I grew up with a lot of just 2 toys - Star Wars & G.I.Joe. Never had Transformers, He-Man, or anything else. Just those two, and that's all I collect today.

Money prevents me from loving other lines. Have to stick to just G.I.Joe even though would love to get into Transformers and Star Wars.
But you're wrong about the Lego castle, this one is THE Lego Castle, the first one ever made, 1978, and I am the proud owner of one. LEGO Set Database I had a ton of Lego sets but for some reason this one had a special honor of being the only set that was ever stored by itself and only made into the castle. The rest of 'em, all the pieces were stored together so i could make custom creations. To this day, that castle is all by it's lonesome in storage ready to be unleashed.

I don't know, I look at some of the older stuff and then I look at the newer stuff and with the exception of lack of playsets I tend to like the newer stuff better. The new Millenium Falcon is a huge leap from the old one way back when.

But here's something for your delight, people: Lego Castle and Lego Town That's cool. There's something similar here in New Hampshire. A scale size replica of Manchester, NH's millyard district done in legos. It's pretty cool. SEE Science Center : Visitors : Millyard

I had a few of many toy lines, but I had a lot of Star Wars, He-Man and G.I. Joe. They were my main interest. Even people who had some of everything had their favorites. That's something that makes me kinda sad (rhetorically speaking, I've never lost sleep over it or anything) about kids today. They have absolutly no loyalty to any toy; if they have toys at all. Most of them are hardwired into video games by the time they can use their thumbs and don't give a rat's ass about anything else except the newest, most expensive game console. My nephew has probably 7 or 8 video game consoles and video games for each stacked up the walls of his bedroom. The child honestly has zero imagination. When I was a kid, I got a nintendo and after I beat Mario Brothers, I stopped playing with it. I just lost interest because it, well....wasn't all that interesting to me.

I'm right there with you, Playmobil started things off for me back in 1974 and has been a constant along with Lego and G.I. Joe through the years adding things here and there. I guess I pick up a few cool SW vehicles now and then, but I hardly consider it collecting.
Other than a few rare and very temproary exceptions, no other toys lines got my love like Playmobil, Lego, and Joes. |
