And Black Lama is correct. You pay $25 bucks and at maturity (15 years later) its $50. If you continue to hold onto it, it WILL still go up, but NOT by anything worth a dam. When my wife took all of hers out I saw the $100 dollar ones from 1976 and thought, "HOLY SHIT, WE'RE GONNA BE RICH!!!" Um...no. Those $100 bonds from 1976 were only worth like $120 bucks. Granted they only got someone $50 at the time, but still, to make $70 bucks in 25 years is pretty pathetic and more than likely actually loses money because its so much lower than actual inflation. |

Savings Bonds don't have a great return, but come on.. You pay $25 and get $50 back. Doubling your initial investment.
That's a bad thing? They were never meant to be major investments. The name alone says what they were meant for "savings bond". It's a bond that the money you put in is saved.
