I never get the DLC. For me, the extra content should be there or not at all. I compare it to "0" or ".1" or other "tie-in" issues to a Comic Book meta-event.
I find in the comic books that the "tie-in" stuff has little to no relevance to the main story line, that I am the stupid one for "gotta getting them all." I bought all the tie-ins for DC's Blackest Night, and most of them were so irrelevant that it actually made me bored with the main mini-series (which was having plot cohesion problems of its own). For Videogames, the argument is that the DLC extends the life of the game. Sure that is fine, but then, just like in comic books, it can't really be all that important because, if it was, it would be it's own game or sequel; the way it was done with Assasin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations. Now, if it is important and they made it into a DLC, then that is just bad story-telling (and greedy), and the game can be rightfully judged on the basis of the "incomplete" main game. Kinda, like how I fault Martin when he says that he "split" Feast of Crows and Dances with Dragons, and they should be seen as one long story. No, Feast of Crows was not complete, and you simply chose to publish. Mass Effect 3 was either complete when it came out in stores, or it was not. Consequently, the DLC is either a "cash grab" for content intentionally left out, or a "cash grab" for putting out a game before it should have been, or completely irrelevant to the main game. |

I always figured that the Day One DLC was made at the same time as the game.
It's not essential to the story of the game, it's added content. So I'm fine with the system the way it is.

Except this time you do not get a character that is viable to the story. An entire character omitted because bioware wants an extra $10 from their already loyal fanbase....... and then they lie about how the content was made. Turns out this was ready to go before the game was finished.

How is the character essential to the story?
I don't know, I've bought a couple games with Day 1 DLC and like I said, I always figured it was developed alongside the game. It's bonus content. I wouldn't assume that they developed the game and then found some extra time between "game done" and "release" to develop the DLC.

That and the smart people out there dissected the game's files and found that there are instances of that character's class already on the disc.................... I support capitalism, but this type of unethical behavior is just....... well it's immoral. That's why I didn't buy the game when it launched. What few and miniscule amounts of EA games I have in my library I make it a point to buy them used. That way I am not voting for EA with my hard earned money.

I've played Dragon Age. I know about Bioware's emphasis on characters.
Not really seeing how this character is anymore essential then say Shale or Sebastian in Dragon Age and DA2. Like I said, I always assumed Day 1 DLC was developed at the same time as the regular game. Sucks Bioware tried to play it off like it wasn't, but I can see why they would do that. The people that went searching through the files have way too much time on their hands, lol

I will buy it used and forgo a party member who should have been on the god damned disc from the get go.
