Manning must have known this would happen... Irsay was right when he said Manning would have a better shot getting to the Super Bowl again with another team.

This might sound crazy but anyone think that the Colts might trade the number 1 pick and move down for RG3? I know it's not likely but they are cutting a ton of vets and rebuilding. They might be able to get a ton for the number 1 pick and move down to about 5 or 6 and get TG3. I know it's a long shot but they could stack some picks if they shop the number 1 pick. They've got a ton of holes to fill now and Luck can't play every position. Just a thought.

If they had half a brain they would. Number one picks are usually a bust. They are NEVER worth what you could actually get for the pick itself. I dont know why the #1 is so coveted. Especially in football. Trade the damn thing, its worthless!!!
Since 1980 the only #1 pics worth mentioning are Eli, Peyton, Aikman, Bruce Smith & Elway. Five. Yes FIVE guys that were what they were supposed to be. Thats it!!!!! Now think about all the great players that have come since then. The #1 isnt worth shit! |

There is zero chance of the Colts trading the number one pick. They will pick Luck because they have no choice. They let Manning go so they must replace him. They seem to favor Luck over RG3 otherwise they'd pick RG3 first over all. If they were to trade the pick it wouldn't be to the Rams so they'd miss out on both Luck and RG3 if they did that. So yeah, Colts are picking Luck. They may aswell make it public and start drawing up the contract.

How many Pro Bowls or Super Bowls have any of those guys been to? Other than Vick (who, as an Atlanta fan, I hated for YEARS), I dont think you can argue any of those other guys. Vick is ARGUABLY, but thats it. No SB ring, a few records and Pro Bowls, but is that what we are considering great these days? Im talking about TRUE leaders. Guys who took their teams on their backs and played with their heart on their sleeve every game. Thats what youre looking for with a #1. Seriously, think about all the other amazing players that have been drafted since 1980. Think about that for a second: NINETEEN EIGHTY!!!!!!!! The #1 pick isnt shit. The pick itself is worth FAR MORE as a pick than the player thats usually chosen.

Well here's a list of number 1 overall picks, their number of years played and the number of Pro Bowls they made. It's actually out of date but still shows good stuff.
National Football League: NFL Draft History: All Time #1 Plus you can't measure success by a player carrying a team on his back. Orlando Pace and Jake Long can't carry a team (being that they're offensive linemen) but they can have a huge impact on the team's success. Ask Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner if Orlando Pace was worth the number 1 pick and I guarantee they will rave about his greatness. People want the number 1 pick to be a flashy superstar. But sometimes it's the guys in the trenches that, not only seem to be a safer pick then a QB, but also have a huge impact in the game without having crazy stats. As for Super Bowl wins, it's hard to justify using them as a way to gauge greatness. Hell Trent Dilfer has as many Super Bowl rings as Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and Brett Favre combined. Doesn't mean he was worth a crap though.

Totally correct.
But, for the sake of argument, do you HONESTLY believe the #1 is, most of the time, NEARLY as good as they pick-er hopes, or is it usually a "bust"? Because honestly, Id put a LOT of those #1 picks on the "bust" list. You can get most of those #1 picks in a trade for not much. But you can get a shit ton FOR a #1 pick itself. Not the player, but the selection. EVERYONE wants it, but its RARELY half as good as the team who chose had hoped. I look at that list and see a bunch of nobodies. Honestly. |

The skins just gave up 3 first round draft picks for RG3. I wouldn't have made that deal.
