LOL. Let's just see how Luck turns out... Irsay might end up paying more than that for a bigger bust. I remember NFL experts saying Ryan Leaf, David Carr and lots of other 1st round QBs were going to be good too.

Luck will probably cost 25 mil for his first 4-5 years. I forget the exact numbers, but it's fairly reasonable. So Manning at 28 mil BONUS (not salary) plus his 10-15 mil salary and the uncertainty of how sturdy he'll be, how good a player he'll be after 4 neck surgeries, no back-up option and an aging team vs. Luck and rebuilding? That's a no-brainer.

^ That would just be his regular salary though right? Not including the giant signing bonus that the 1st pick always gets and is guaranteed money.
Anyway... Manning would be a bargain now since his contract would have to be incentive based with health exceptions if he gets hurt.

Except, thanks to the new (and much needed) rookie wage scale, drafint a bust isn't as big a deal as it used to be.

And from what I understand, the new CBA adjusted all of it for the first round pick. Really, prior, the yearly salary for the 1st pick wasn't that bad, it was the signing bonus that made it that bad. The new system is a slotted system, you get drafted at X spot you get X money.

That's a no-brainer. Another possibility would have been keep Manning and trade the number 1 pick away to stack for the future (a la Dallas with Hershel Walker). However with RG3 getting a lot of hype this year (his stats were actually better than Luck in every passing category and he did it with Baylor) I'm not so sure that Luck is miles ahead of RG3 like we originally thought. So a team might not want to trade away tons of picks for the number 1 pick if they think RG3 is the real deal and can snag him around the 5 or 6 pick.

Colts just cut Joseph Addai, Gary Brackett, Dallas Clark and Melvin Bullit. Let the rebuild begin!
