am i missing out on some super high performance trend,or some morons facination with risking a crash due to extreme stress on tires?

Uhhh yeah. Even if the suspension/drivetrain is correct behind those tires, I can just-about guarantee you those wheels weren't designed to be loaded in that direction.

My question is how does he handle speed bumps with that setup? My friend has a DeLorean and he is very careful around speed bumps, if not outright avoiding them, and his only issue is being low to the ground.
