I don't accept that I am a nerd. I'm just a weirdo.

@ Delta
excerpt from Alice's adventures in Wonderland: "But I don't like to go among NERD people," Alice remarked. "Oh you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all NERDS here. I'm a NERD. You're a NERD "How do you know I'm a NERD?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

but the difference is that I know at least I am a nerd and can accept it. I can make fun of it. I don't take it too seriously.

let's not forget (for history sake) the AWFUL leifeld rendition of someone running...little tiny back leg and all...
and splash pages? dont get me started on his splash pages. you know, a lot of the deadline arguments could also be applied to the Godhead Travis Charest, but Mr. Charest's work is something I could spend hours drooling over (nerd). Imagine Charest doing (at the very least) covers for a new Joe comic... perchance to dream...

I was so addicted to Transformers that I made audio cassette recordings of the cartoon shows and took them with me on Boy Scout camping trips.
I seriously doubt anyone can top that nerd story!!!!!! |

I dressed up as Duke for the 2005 GI JOE convention. My wife was Lady Jaye and My Best friend was Flint. WE had these costumes from the previous Halloween and thought WHAT THE HELL. We were almost the only folks dressed up that day. There was one other Flint though. A dime store version compared to my Buddies Near-perfect costume. He kinda followed my buddy around...they were Flint-pals.
As for "Awesome" Rob Liefield.... I was at Wizardworld in Chicago this summer and was at the Hyatt hanging out with my friend, doing sketches in the lobby only 40 feet from "Awesome" Rob himself. We were bitching about stupid comics and and I started mocking lame-ass Marvel Characters like Cable when I realized that I was mere feet from the creator of that character (I sorta forgot he was there). Through my peripheral vision I saw his head spring up and he was looking at us... Probably thinking we were huge fans or something. He wishes. I guess you gotta hand it to him....He craps on paper, misses deadlines, doesn't finish projects, has no grasp of human anatomy, and yet he is still getting work and companies keep publishing his books. He's sure got someone fooled! |

I remember when I was twelve or so (circa 1992), finding a huge comic book sale in Huntsville, AL, where thousands of comics were 50 cents each. I spent nearly the entire day going through those comics, trying to find the best deals and the ones that I wanted. I ended up spending 80 bucks. The whole time I was there, it was like geek heaven to me, and I was excited and sweating--that is to say "geeking out". I was, am, and always will be a nerd (I've got pictures of me at 3 years old wearing Han Solo and Spiderman shirts, dressing up like Superman with my red undies over my blue tights, etc.), but that was the absolute low (high?) point
I guess the second worst thing was me waking up early and getting on HTS the Monday after SDCC trying to get Cobra Commander this year, and all the clicking and frustration, trying to get one before they ran out. What a complete and total nerd thing to do! In fact, that might beat my other story. I have never been so ashamed of myself. Last edited by karamazov80; 10-11-2008 at 02:43 AM.. |
