Well as much of joke the All Star game is I'm glad Niklas Backstrom got in. The local media figured Mikko Koivu was a lock and Backstorm would get snubbed. It turned out the other way around, but that's cool 'cause its so hard to get in as a goalie and Mikko will definitely have his chances in the future (if they keep the game around). Backstrom has been saving the Wild's bacon all season.
Also glad Mike Modano got in... does the NHL still have the rule that every team gets an All Star? Might be tough to do in the East... |

I see your point as I am also glad my boy Danny Boyle got in there as well. to answer the question, no. think they gave that rule up a year or so ago but not a huge fan of the all star game so don't know for sure.
but where is Vinny Lecavalier? |

I just find him humorous since he looks just like a mob enforcer and got busted for gambling rings......and is now coaching the Lightning.....*sigh*

I think the NHL has the very best All star game around, even if we don't agree with the selection and roster for the teams being represented of course I might be a little bias cause I enjoy watching hockey and can't stand the NBA!!

Funny to think that Conklin ruined the Oilers Stanley Cup run just a few years ago. That kid really bounced back and has done awesome since with the Pens and Wings. I remember watching him come in for Roloson and get raped. The kinda of expience the that could leave a goalie shattered and emotionally scared forever. Its been a great story since.

I remember the Wild's first season when they had Sergei Krivokrasov. He got to go to the ASG when they had that silly rule with the Predators; I think when he scored 25 goals or something. Anyway, the Wild comericals always introduced him as "All Star winger" Krivokrasov, and then I would laugh when he didn't play because Lemaire would make him a healthy scratch. |

Wow, I never knew he had a tough time with EDM until now. I saw him lose in the Heritage Classic a couple weeks ago when they replayed it on the NHL Network. Until then, I hadn't heard of him prior to his stint in PGH. That is an awesome story! Now if he could just win a Stanley Cup with Detroit this spring, the circle will be complete...

I agree, most ASG's are lame, but I enjoy watching hockey either way. The voting has turned into a joke, and it seems the players don't care about it. The NHL keeps it to kiss up to their sponsors that week. I'm just glad the Winter Classic has been a success so the NHL has at least one legitimate primier event.
