I know what a 2 week old dead body smells like. It was a 600 + lb man who was a shut who had died in the summer with tempatures in the 90s and no ac on. Its a sickly sweet smell that gets into everything.

A body doesnt smell that bad for that long. Stuff eats it FAST. Now, you put a body in garbage bag in the trunk of a car and youll have an awful smell for MONTHS (I had a deer head in a trash bag in a garbage can for like 6 months and when I opened it I almost passed out!). But you put a body out in the open and it really "airs out" quickly. Gases build up, it splits open and the gases and fluids escape. The flies lay eggs, maggots eat the flesh. Beetles and other bugs come along, the gases escape and and the smell doesnt linger all that long. A few weeks, maybe 5-6 max in "regular" conditions, and I bet your average sized person isnt smelling much at all (not like youd think a corpse would anyway).
Now, thats not talking about the fluids might that have leeched into the carpet, and that can smell forever literally, but the body itself, once it splits and the gases and fluids escape and decomposition starts taking place, wont smell all that bad. Now Im only comparing it to large (deer, bear, moose) dead animals Ive smelled, but I cant image a person is much different. Last edited by bigvig; 02-12-2012 at 12:30 AM.. |

Stranger things have happened. I recall a thief got stuck in a chimney and died there. He was never discovered until 27 years later!

If I had been the one that discovered I would have just taken the free .45 and left. Probably would have checked his wallet too. You can believe that story.

Abandoned houses are one thing but a rented room. Did the owner forget about collecting rent or was this a situation of direct deposited monies being available to pay for automatic drafts for bills? I would think it is kind of odd not to speak with a tenant for 3 years.

There was a guy in my town that lived with his parents and had killed 4 hookers and put there bodies in the walls and under the floor boards. Told his parents that raccoons were dying in the walls. Can you imagine the smell in that house? Neighbors had no clue.
