Thanks man, my boss seems to think I will be. I don't gamble that often, but I seem to have good luck, we'll see what happens.
I really appreciate all the great responses, it helps to know that there are some people out there that understand and care. P.S. you rock your orange font very well!

I don't write in green because of that, I just like the way it looks against the black background!
Nuclear plants only have an average operating life of 30 years, is it really worth it? We've seen more damage done by them than any other type of generation so far. That's like believing windmills and solar energy will solve all of our problems. Everything in balance has better effects on our environment and our economy. Either way, I'm not stressed about it yet. I appreciate all the great comments. I'm starting to believe that this is probably a chess game between our company, PJM, and the government. My job will probably be secure, but keep good thoughts for all the other employees that will be affected. Either way, it's a bummer of a day. P.S. I'm not anti nuclear, windmills, or solar. I actual spent a third of my career with this company in a nuclear plant. My cousin works as a contractor for G.E. repairing windmills. I could never do that, I'm way too scared of heights for that! solar panels are made with many dangerous materials, including many carcinogens. The manufacturing of solar panels requires arsenic and cadmium, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists. Also, solar panels require a substance called polysilicon. To manufacture one ton of polysilicon, four tons of liquid waste are produced. If this waste is exposed to humid air, it can transform into various acids and poisonous gases, according to The Washington Post. Read more: The Environmental Impact of Solar Panels | eHow.com The Environmental Impact of Solar Panels | eHow.com i dont think arsenic is manufactured in the states either............... yep, weeza screwed any way. hope it works out for you,we got 2 or 3 plants that might shut down because they are only 90% effecient in removing emmissions.yes i'm being sarcastic.it would take like 60 million to get it better.

I am really sorry to hear this iDz. We closed an entire operating division of our old company 3 years ago. The market was terrible, so I ended up commuting to another city to work for the government. 3 years later, I still work there, in a job that I have never been happier at. There will be initial stress, shock, anger, etc... but ultimately, God has plans for you brother. I am praying for your family.

Thanks. I would if I had something to fall back on. I have a wife and three kids now, a career change would be really tough. Mostly because I don't have a college education. I started out in retail management right after high school and they sucked me in. About 5 years ago I was given a break and got into this company. I'm making $11.00 more an hour than I was before that. I'm working 40 hours a week and I get to spend time with my family. When my oldest boy was young, I was barely around, because I was working 60+ hour weeks. I'm looking into different avenues within the company, but I'm not too worried. I'm not saying that foolishly though, I'm saying it through faith.
may be worth thinking about........... I remember a friend who was a baker at safeway, she made something like 14 bucks an hour and was bragging about it. kicker is something like 5 dollars of that was union fees. so in reality she made 9 bucks an hr. I just cant be a fan of unions in this day and age, yes they were very important back in the day but with employee rights in place from the federal level I just dont see the point of them and truely believe we would be better off if they were not around anymore.

Thanks Dark, I know there's a purpose for me and if one door closes another will open. I believe we will be taken care of through this tough time. Blue... The offset of my union fees verses the pay rate differences aren't even close in my situation. I see where it could be like that, but it's not like that for my union. I grew up with a dad who was in the union, it's so different now for sure. The company has them in their pocket and vice versa. The union reps take the position to protect themselves. They don't teach or help, all they do is fight. I wish it was the way it was before, but it will never be like that again. I've also worked in the salary field though. I had district and market managers yell and belittle me in front of employees and customers. That will never happen where I work and I like that. I would have a near perfect store and those guys would come in and make me feel like crap. It's just a bummer because I was finally comfortable with my pay rate and my family was reaping the benefits. I know that things will never be perfect but it sure makes life easier. In better news... My boss's boss came in today and assured me and another co-worker that he would take care of us. He hasn't lied to me in 5 years, I don't believe he will now.
