I used a canon rebel T1I to shoot almost all of the pictures in my Marvel Legends guidebook, but the terrain shots were taken with my Sony Cybershot. You can get a decent one for around $150-$200, and as long as your lighting is good, it will yield good results. I use it for all of my ebay and family pics.

In all honesty, there isnt a HUGE difference between cameras in that price range. Go to dpreview.com and search camera models, do side-by-side comparisons, etc. The BIGGEST thing to look at is sensors. Contrary to popular MISbelief, megapixel count has NOTHING to do with the quality of images.
Look for one that has a bunch of settings, white balances and macro. Also one that has an adjustable flash with different settings like "forced", "red-eye" and "off". HUGE option thats often overlooked. Camera prices are ALL over the place. I have a Pentax Optio W series (I think its the W40) that cost me like $100 back about 5 years ago now that takes great pictures. I also have a Canon Mark III that cost me about $4K a couple years back. I use 6 cameras regularly in that price range (2 Pentax, a Nikon, a Canon, a Fuji and a Kodak). You cant go wrong with Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Fuji or even Sony. Like I said, look at the sensors and features for your cash. $150 might buy a nice camera, $185 could buy something twice as good.
