NOTE: This is not a thread to name specific bad buyers on eBay. This is a general purpose rant.
I don't understand a lot of uyers on eBay. I don't sell a lot of stuff. Mostly formula coupons and some toys. Nothing big. But when did it become so commonplace for buyers to simply never leave any feedback? I've been active on eBay since I was a freshman in college back in 1998. And from then it was ALWAYS proper ettiquite to leave your seller good feedback if the transaction went well. Always! And sellers almost always reciprocated. Now it's actually much more rare for me to receive feedback than it is to get it! How lame is that? In the month of December I sold 8 items on eBay. I left Positive feedback for all 7 buyers and shipped out their items promptly. Do you know how many feedbacks I have received. ONE. One lousy feedback, and that was for the item I sold on 12/2! Since then, NADA! I looked at one of my buyer's feedback profile, and he has NEVER left a feedback for others! What the hell? When did this become common practice? To me, these types of buyers are lousy because yeah you sell your item, but as a seller you are trying to get good feedback scores so more people will look at your items. Pretty hard when these buyers refuse to leave feedback!

I encounter this a lot and it annoys me. What annoys me even more is I can't leave negative feedback to people who stiff me. There's this guy named Delta682 (real name Merle Holder of Brooklyn, NY) who has won over 30 auctions and stiffed everybody. Ebay has so far failed to do anything to stop him. Ebay is getting worse and worse every year with it's dumb anti-seller policies.

Yeah, agree about how earlier times with eBay sellers and buyers that feedback was not hard to get.
Now sellers or buyers it's not easy to get them to do it,like it's actually some kind of tiresome duty to do. Busy sellers I buy from regularly sometimes take a while to leave me feedback but once I get my item I leave feedback - without fail. Just more laziness from people. |

Yeah, I hear ya man. I've been selling a lot of stuff on eBay this year, and only about 25% (if that) of buyers leave feedback. I ALWAYS leave feedback!
It doesn't bother me TOO much, but I'm trying to get my "feedback number" up over 100. Plus, it leaves the transaction out in limbo. Did they actually receive it? Were they happy with it? I hate NOT knowing. Once I get that feedback, I can consider the transaction complete. |

ljacone, I periodically buy from Ebay, and I always leave feedback. I think it is important, because the feedback acts as a character witness/reference for future potential buyers.
IMO, for someone to neglect to leave feedback is not only rude, but a disservice for both the seller and future potential buyers. |

As a seller I usually do hold off on feedback until the buyer gives me positive feedback because in the past I've had people try and extort me.

I don't have a problem with that procedure. It's pretty fair all things considered. If this trend continues I may have to start implementing that myself.

Ive been on ebay since my Junior year of college, which was also 1998. I know, understand and have been on both sides of this and seen all the changes throughout the years.
Ebay is NO LONGER an auction site....for the most part. Its a huge "Amazonesque" retail site. People dont use it the same and therefore feedback isnt thought of the same way. As a buyer, when I receive an item, I leave feedback immediately and THEN contact the seller letting them know that it came, I liked it and left feedback....ONLY if it was left for me first. I feel as though its the buyer who should leave feedback first, because their end of the deal was finished first. If they hadnt left feedback I will contact them letting them know that it came, Im happy and to please leave feedback and Ill do the same. I wont leave it first anymore because I wont receive it. HOWEVER, lately as a seller I refuse to leave feedback first when selling certain items, i.e., toys especially. Reason being, there are too many bunk buyers and people wont leave it in return. When I sell other merchandise, like books, fishing items or certain collectibles, I will leave feedback first because I know 99.9% of those particular buyers are honest people. |

i've had sellers who state that they only leave feedback after i leave it for them.
why? you got your money, right? normally i leave it after i get my item regardless of what they do. but if they get jerky about it, i just don't leave it. |
