I've been teaching for nearly a decade, and the profession's bureaucratic trappings are getting to me, and so I like to fantasize about alternative career paths... or even just alternative jobs.
What about you lot? What do you do for a living? Do you have a job, or a career? To what extent are you content with your job? If you are not content, then to what extent does "At least I have a job in today's economy" help you endure your job? |

I have a 4 year teaching degree in elementary education, a Class A CDL, and an expired BLET certification in NC and in Virginia. But I realized I hate other peoples kids, I hated dealing with the criminal element, and I hate truck driving.
So, now I drive a stand up forklift in a sub-zero degree refrigerated warehouse. It's a job a trained monkey could do, but right now, it suits the needs of me and my family. |

For the past 13 or so years I've been paid to watch TV and push buttons.
Due to the technological advances over the years, my job has turned into watching TV and babysitting a computer. I sometimes think about changing jobs as mine isn't as challenging as it once was, but it's hard to leave a job where you're paid to watch TV (even if you don't get to choose what you watch) |

Most of my adult life, I have been in Management. I have run Call Centers, Law Offices & even a few Fast Food franchises (Dairy Queen/Orange Julius) at the corporate level. Currently, I manage a Storage Property in Palm Harbor, FLorida.
I have managed Storage Properties before, but this one is so amazingly easy since they do not allow the managers to do maintenance. They have several maintenance guys that work on all the corporation's properties and we are forbidden to attempt any of it ourselves. NICE! So, basically that means I get to hang out in the office all day, focusing solely on renting units. TRANSLATION: On the internet, mostly the 'Tank, all day!! The industry has gotten a big boost this year thanks to the Storage Wars TV Show. We used to have 5 or 10 guys at our auctions, now we have HUGE crowds of 30 or 40 people! Of course, it's still the same 5 guys who bid, just like the show. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup!! And for all my hardwork this year, I was just notified that my property had the most rentals this year, so I won the Corporate prize which I will receive Sunday at the Xmas party. It's a monetary prize, I just don't know how much yet!

I am an Architectural Designer. Basically it means I do an Architect's job but I can't legally call myself one because I'm not licensed. But that will soon change as I'm currently in the process of taking the 7 Architectural Registration Exams so I will be a licensed Architect.
The company I work for right now, we specialize in warehouses for the Food/Beverage industry. I've done a couple refrigerated warehouses.
