So my wife was looking at our account statement this morning and noticed an unrecognizable charge of $5.10 from a vendor listed only a "witifile.co". I told her to call the number associated with the charge and see if she can determine who generated the charge and where it's coming from. She says the number is not a valid number and doesn't get anywhere when she tries to call; I believe it referred her instead to visit their website or send an email if there are questions.
Long story made short, it's a fraudulent charge that neither she nor I never [knowingly] initiated. We're trying to figure out where on earth it might have come from, how it got our card information and charged our account. At this point she has BBTS as one of her culprits as she just recently placed an order for one of the 7-packs for me for Christmas and that's an online vendor she's not familiar with. So my question is, has anyone else who has done business with BBTS seen a charge not long afterward generate from witifile.com? Has anyone else seen a charge on their statement from witifile.com at all? I'm pretty sure--99.1%--that it was not BBTS. My guess it was probably resultant from an app she downloaded for her phone or some Facebook game, but who knows at this point.

I haven't actually had any problems with fraudulent charges, but there was a month-long period where my bank would not allow BBTS to charge/use my card because my bank said there were a number of fraud cases associated with BBTS's "vendors" (the people that handle the money-side of things). Sounds like this is what they were talking about! During that time period, I emailed BBTS about it and they claimed they knew nothing about fraud cases/problems with vendors. I never understood how people get away with this. We have a phone number as well as the money being withdrawn. The money has to be going into a certain account. Why can't they just track that account, find out who it is and shut them down? Maybe I'm not aware of how everything works but it just seems like an easy fix for the authorities.

I had this happen with my Bravenet account, which is web hosting stuff. They are based out of New Brunswick and I had my account set up to automatically withdrawal. I was doing business with them like this for over 8 years when all of the sudden, one day the charge was denied. After a few phone calls, turns out my credit union will not allow them to withdrawal money like that because there have been too many fraudulent claims against them.
After some further investigation, it wasnt actually THEM, but their system wasnt secure enough and there were hackings getting info from them. Stupid thing is, I can pay them no problems with my debit card online, I just cant have my account set up to automatically withdrawal. You need to do some looking into it, youll pinpoint it. |
