I got this off of ebay, it arrived today.
You see I had this board, it was the summer of 1990, my 10th grade year. I have been obsessing over getting this board back for almost 3 years now. The funny thing is I HATED this board when I had it, I was giddy when I snapped off the nose doing a nose slide. Yet here I am 18 years later and I have to have it back. So I get home from work and I go right to work on it. After a few hours work Degripping, Destickering, Regripping, Replacing the rails (Damn thing had mini-ribs, had to redrill my Rib Bones to use the holes already in the deck. Looking for Black Mini Ribs now), redrilling the indy baseplates to work with it, JB Weld Grindking conversion on the indys, I have to say it looks pretty good. It's a trip riding basically the same board I had 18 years ago. And here are the results:

I am not much into skateboarding but i think it is a very cool looking board. Plus it is always good to pick up something that gives you memories from the past......

Not really into boarding, but i am in to the recapturing my youth part. Im piecing together everything i missed out on when i was a little kid. It will take some time and money, but getting back the things that made my child hood so much fun is well worth the time and cost.

I'm not a skater, but congrats on re-acquiring a part of your youth!

Thanks guys. Yeah it's one of those things. I've been toying with the idea for 3 years now, and when they reissued the first Ray Underhill I had a chance to build that exactly like the one my best friend had at the same time I had this. Now This Tony Hawk and the Underhill sit right next to each other, just like me and Joey in 90.

You may get a kick out of this Shin. I rode my 1st skateboard in 89 (5th grade), all because of the movie "Gleaming the Cube' lol The whole look of being a skater was cool to me, I had to be one (mainly as a poser since the only thing I could do was ollie off the curb) lol. So I grew out my bangs on one side enough to cover my face, beg my mom to buy me some vision street wear hi-tops, and baggy clothes.
I did love skating around the neighborhood though but that quickly changed when I got tired of just doing ollies, so I went back to my bmx freestyle roots. Anyways, My 1st board was the skull and crossbone board with the sword(sorry don't remember the name) and independent trucks with some generic wheels. So seeing your board brings back some good nostaligic skating memories even if they were some pretty lame ones for me lol Last edited by DaViper; 08-25-2008 at 01:08 AM.. |

Pretty cool man. With us it didn't matter who was good or what they could do it was just skating and having fun, and our neighborhood that was the trick as it was one of the roughest parts of OC. We had a dude that was in the same boat as you. We didn't rip on him, he was a bro and skated with us, so what if he could only ollie.
Gleaming the cube was an inspiration to a lot of us (I'm vainly looking for a reasonably priced copy of the dvd), still trip on the Pizza Hut truck Tony Hawk is driving with all the skaters hanging off of it. I had the hair twice in my life BTW (The Hawk "McSqueeb" Haircut) when I was young, and again when I was 18 just t be "Retro". My boy has it now If you got the Skull and Sword in 89 it was probably this one:
