My wife works on either Thanksgiving or Christmas each year. Last year she worked both. Only about 4 or 5 hours each day but still sucks. Last year was our son's first Christmas and my wife was pissed because she had to work. My son was only 3 months so it didn't matter because she was home before he even woke up. Funny thing is she works at a place that cashes checks,.gives cash advances and pays bills. Who the hell is doing any of those 3 on Christmas day?

drunk, my son will be 4 this year. Do you think he understands the difference between the 25th or the 28th? Nope. Its been programmed into us so we throw a fit. I even commented on this in my earlier post, about my wifes mother doing it and the thought pisses me off too. But in all honesty, if you have a job, have a family and get to celebrate Christmas as a loving family, then you really shouldnt be complaining, you should be thankful. A lot of people dont have those luxuries. And honestly, isnt that what Thanksgiving and Christmas are REALLY about?

Do you at least get to kick people between the legs for shopping late on Christmas Eve? WTF! It's not like Christmas just surprises us at the last minute.

My best friend has worked as an air port mechanic for the past 16 or so years. He has Sunday and Monday off. So unless the Holiday falls on those 2 days, he's working.
I work with the stock market Which means if the markets closed, Llama is home. I wish I worked for a bank or state office, those bastards get Arbor day off......

I look at it like this:
1: If youre in that line of business, expect it. And on top of that, be thankful that enough people spend their hard earned money patronizing your place of employment so you can STAY employed. 2: Similar to number 1, be THANKFUL that you HAVE a job! MILLIONS of Americans DONT! Sorry you have to work on a "holiday". Maybe you could have a big turkey dinner on your next day off and realize that you probably dont celebrate Thanksgiving for the right reasons anyway, and moving your dinner to another day isnt that big of a deal. Ive been there and done that, and thats how I always looked at it. My wife grew up with her mother always working on Thanksgiving and Christmas (the Christmas thing would piss me off, but.....), so they just moved them to another day. Its not that big of a deal really, especially if youre celebrating for the right reasons. Exactly. Come back and complain when you can't get the day off for your own funeral and then I'll agree that "Work is mean!". |

I'm on call in case we need to whip up a new last minute black Friday email. But if I come in I get time and a half pay so I kind of hope it happens.
Do you guys who work in stores get holiday rates? |

the same idiots who will be out on thursday night would go out friday at 6, 7, or 8 am. don't see why retail has to be open. the big bosses should give their employees the same holiday off they enjoy.
most places were closed most of my life (35+ years) and the retail business didn't collapse. a christmas carol, anyone? |
