Officer. Cobra Officer was a lot cooler than the regular infantry.

Is the Greek army all that active? Either way, I'm sure it's a safe bet. Do they teach you to surrender more officially in the officer corps?

Whatever you do, just make sure you get to wear one of those red Spartan cloaks! ;)
Seriously, it's hard to really give much helpful info without knowing a little more about your situation and what kind of experience you're looking for. I did my national service in the Norwegian Army, and ended up staying in for an extra 6 months and becoming a junior NCO. In my experience, the important thing with a draft type situation is that you try to get into some branch that will be interesting and challenging. Avoid getting an office job if you can, you'll probably spend the rest of your life in an office anyway. Of course, not everyone is cut out for a front line combat unit, (even if they really like G.I.Joe) and spending time trying out what sounds most interesting to you is really the only way to find out. If your experience with national service is anything like mine, it will be challenging, exciting, and you'll learn more about yourself, and you'll interact and bond with lots of people you wouldn't have met otherwise - that's a good thing. |
