A lot of my trees broke/or were damaged. Looks like I'm spending the week playing with my chainsaw!
6 inches of snow were I live. Most of it has already melted. |

We got smacked in Western Mass. I'm lucky enough to be in one of the small areas that didn't lose power. Our cable is out, but we still have lights and heat. We had the bright idea to head out for breakfast after shoveling and it was a mess. Huge sections with no power where you'd swear noboby knows what to do when traffic lights are out. Plows had been out, but there were so many trees and branches down most of the curbside lanes were filled with debris. Some spots were closed down to just one lane total for both directions so people had to take turns letting a few cars through in one direction then a few in the other direction. Three seperate times we had to turn around and find another route because a tree had fallen and completely closed a road. In the morning gas stations that had power and were open had lines out in the street. By afternoon they were putting up signs that they were out of gas. We never did get our breakfast out either. Most of the places we would have went to were closed because they didn't have power. The ones that did have power were packed and measing the wait times for a table in hours. Saturday night I don't think we ever went more than a half hour or so without hearing a tree or big branch falling somewhere nearby. Also glad we left our car in the driveway instead of the garage. In the morning the car was buried by a foot of snow. The garage had a tree on it. No real damage to it, but the tree had fallen across the front roof and down over the front to the driveway so while the car would have been fine, we wouldn't have been able to get it out of the garage until the tree was cleared away.

Just having snow early wasn't the problem. Getting a foot of very wet and heavy snow so early that the trees still had most of thier leaves which caused tons of trees and branches to fall which casued tons of road closures and record level power outages. That was the problem.
