I feel for you man. I went through something similar with my last job. I got the heads up from a lower 48 Regional Manager, after I was demoted and transferred for no reason. We were cleaning up the warehouse when he told me "You see the writing on the wall right?"
I let him know I knew it was coming...my boss was just waiting to bring on "friends" that were looking for work. Sure as shit, 3 days later my boss and the guy who gave me the heads up sat me down an hour before closing. I kept cool through my boss's mundane bs speech. As I was leaving though, the regional said..."When I get this region, know that your name is first on the list." Even if it was empty, it was nice to have that. |

I lost my last job because they went to a new database system and re-wrote the job description behind out backs. I was top in the database training and started helping the slower people. One day they just blew me and the other person in my department out and said I 'wasnt picking it up' when the trainers all pitched in and said I was nailing it.
In reality, my manager hated me and it was an excuse to "release" me with vaca pay and severance. So she got stuck with the workload of the two ppl she fired, processing ground to a halt for a month, and went through a string of temps that would just quit or find other jobs. They re-wrote the job description 2 or 3 times after I left because she is a massive fuck-up and cant manage for shit. The whole office began to hate her. Finally......get this......they re-wrote her job description and blew her out LOL |

Sucks dude. Hopefully you find something quick, since it feels like the economy is gonna take another turn soon.
No one is irreplaceable. We're all expendable, no matter how safe you think you are. The trick is to find a position and get yourself in such a way that you seem less expendable. I can't speak for others, but for myself, I am currently in a position where I run clients out of two separate branches. I have my own office in each. The opportunity for a promotion is there, but I thought about it a long time and decided to hold off, because 1) that promotion results in way more responsibilities, and most likely a transfer to a less desirable branch situation. Right now I can come and go as I please, as I am the only one in my department at my locations. How do you put a price on freedom? 2) I am not the highest paid at what I do, and I am not the lowest paid, but I always blow my targets out of the water. I am a bargain for my company. I am pulling in numbers close to what senior reps pull in and they're being paid much more than me. This gives me a bit more job security over my peers who are in positions where they aren't pulling in enough numbers to justify their salaries. I don't make big waves, and I always say, "Sure, no problem" even if I think it is bullshit. It looks like you made the best of it for as long as you could. Sounds like the company isn't all there. I'm sure you'll land on your feet. |

I worked for a company for 7 years, got laid off about 2 years ago and landed on my feet a week later with another company that kept me for a year and layed me off due to lack of work. I was out of work for 9 out of the last 12 months (worked a short job out of state for the other 3 months) and I recently started a new job in a brand new field at 34 years old. I have gone from being a foreman to a piss on, and I literally am bringing home half of my old salary... actually, a tad less then half. Hopefully this job market will get better.
I wish you the best in your search for meaningful employment and that you will find a better job with folks that appreciate you. |
