I've been buying/selling/trading Joes on the Tank for the past 2+ years, I've had VERY few bad experiences - 99+% have been very pleasant!
I picked up the Original SW Trilogy on Blu-ray and my son got hooked so I figured I'd get a few of his favorites for Christmas this year. I already have a stock pile of Joes for Christmas, and with SW being sparse here, I start buying/trading outside of the Tank. Well, in ONE WEEK I get 3 'MISB' items from different sellers/traders that come re-taped and used, and another that hasn't shipped 3 weeks after payment! I haven't had this many issues in 2+ years here on the Tank!!! The guy who hasn't shipped has now refunded my $ and one of the 3 repackers has offered a full refund or replacement (per eBay), but the other two just call me a liar and say tough? From my limited experience, there doesn't seem to be the same sense of community between SW fans as Joe fans, which is kudos to The Tank and our Joe community.....but it has me wondering, is this just what to expect from SW collectors? There are a few more items I'd like to get for my son for Christmas, but I'm hesitant to buy/trade for anything else SW with how it's gone so far. I guess the good thing with SW, is that if I wait long enough, it will be on shelves again at some point... Thanks for letting me vent, and I'm curious to learn if others have had the same bad luck outside of the Tank... |

Star Wars buying/selling on ebay, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Just kidding.
All I know is that in my area, there is what I think to be a single person who is always repacking multipack sets, clearing out stock from one store and returning them, or just flat out stealing the astromech driods out of multi-sets. Sure, I see Joes repacked, but even when Joes were more widely released in the 25th days it wasn't nearly as bad as with Star Wars stuff. |

SW collectors as a group seem much more interested in profits and collecting for resale value.
Not all of them obviously, but it seems to to be present in their community much more than any other. It could just be that there are so many more of them than most other types of collectors... I love SW, but i can't stand their forums. Very strict, and mainly focused on bitching about incorrect belt buckles and missing holster leg straps...

it probably has a lot to do with numbers.
there are atleast 3 times more SW collectors than joes, which means 3 times as much products, and 3 times the a-holes its like crime in a big city, more population = more crime
