Nothing is better than the other. Really, it isnt. Ive owned many different vehicles and have friends with everything you can imagine. Everything has its problems, parts can break and depending on how you drive it you can damage it or make it last forever. Personally I hate Fords, but my best friends dad has a Super Duty with 480K on it with NO rebuild. Just some gaskets here and there and minor stuff. My gramp has a dodge with over 500K and the motor has never had work. We had a Chevy when I was a kid (early '80's) that had 200K on it and never had anything done to it. I owned a Camry that was an absolute POS and had things wrong with it every month. That car was treated WELL too, but it was just junk. Maybe the assembly line had some issues that day, who knows, but that car made me hate Toyota. For as long as I live Ill never own another one. Currently I have a '99 Jeep XJ with the 4L I6 and that thing is a beast. You CANT stop it. Super easy and cheap to work on and NEVER breaks down. Snow, ice, mud, rocks, etc., that thing is unstoppable. Ill NEVER get rid of it. Same with my s10: 1990 with 184K on it. My FIL bought it new and gave it to me in 2001. Its been treated well and had regular maintenance done to it and its a great truck. But realistically, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Toyota, Jeep, etc., theyre all good vehicles. We just get used to our own brand and think everything else sucks.
With that said, Id rather push a Chevy, Dodge or Jeep than drive a Ford or Toyota ANY day. |

Its funny that Toyota led the industry for years for reliability and resale value in its class. When I worked for them I saw so many nightmares. The early model Tacoma frame rot recall comes to mind. I left before the Prius accelerator fiasco. Saw the same deal at Benz. Brand new $50k+ rigs, absolute turds from the factory. My family had a few Fords growing up so thats always been my thing. My Dad had an Excursion with 350k on it, mostly towing an Airstream trailer crosscountry multiple times. I knew next to nothing about cars when I bought a new Focus in 2001 because it "looked cool". I was working at dealership at the time and started to learn. I moved up to an SVT Focus and kept getting into better faster cars. I learned how to flip cars; ie look for deals on limited production cars, maintain them, and profit when trading. I got into my Lightning for 4 grand under book through a trade in at work. Then I sold that for a $3500 profit. Had a Focus RS clone at the same time, flipped it a year later for the same price I bought it for at a profit of 2 grand. Grabbed the Cobra, $22k private value, for $16k during the winter from a guy who couldnt store it anymore. This is the one Im keeping and it took this long to find the right deal. And of course it breaks, I have roughly 80hp over stock and thats when factory parts start failing, but as much as I bitch I love to work on cars. Ive never had any major problems with Ford, only wear and tear. I simply do not like Chevy's styling. I have tons of respect for the Corvette but I dont think I could own one. As it sits my 8 year old car will beat a C5 Z06 and when I buy my friend's ported blower next spring Ill be in C6 Z06 territory. If I choose to Whipple down the road it Ill be in ZR1 land for 1/3rd the price. I prefer Dodge over Chevy. They have a more aggresive styling and I love the Challenger and Viper. The SRT Ram was good looking, but when compared to a Lightning its heavy and cant tow and is virtually even matched. A $90 pulley swap on the Lightning will make vastly greater gains than $1000 worth of bolt-ons on the Ram. Toyota makes grandma cars. Gotta love the Supra though. I like Nissan but theyre getting stale. I would love a 03-04 Maxima SE 6spd for a beater. Honda? Great commuter cars. Not race cars. Subaru is for fanboys. Same with Mitsu. The STi and EVO are not God's Chariot as Monster-chugging kids will swear to. The new V6 Mustang beats them both on the road course, now thats embarrasing. |

My sister inlaws parents had a 01' Mustang they traded for an Impreza STi WRX... they drove it for a while and really loved it. They traded it in on a 2012 Shelby GT500... they said there is no comparison between the two cars.
I have owned several cars in my lifetime, I didn't start out a Ford fan... I progressed to them after I had 7 vehicles fail me in one year and ended up with a 95' Escort that I ended up putting over 400,000 miles on. Fords have their issues, but in my experience, their issues don't leave you stranded. |

My ultimate goal is to own a GT. Only thing I would trade the Terminator in for. Give it a couple years =)

I want a new Boss 302, but I will probably do a Dynacorn based 67' Fastback once my truck and current Mustang are finished.

The new Boss is only a slightly factory modified Stang GT and not really worth the price IMHO. Lots more out of the box power and potential with a GT500, especially with the SVT Performance Package. I know theyve tightened up the suspension on it but it still handles for crap. 99-01 Cobras, the 00R and Terminator are the only Mustangs with an IRS and properly handle.
But yeah, Im hearing good things about the Boss. Saw one the other day in red. I dont like the paint apps on the black ones. And as far as that GT, I was just browsing and the cheapest I saw was like $150k lol |

Not a fan of IRS... did some road track racing in the older Cobras and hated the way they handled. Now, my GT handled like a luxury car when it was stock... damn sure worse then the IRS, but since I installed the Steeda Trac Pack, it is much much better. I also don't like the fact that things tend to start coming apart on the IRS when you start doing high HP applications. The current suspension is very refined... they handle like a sports car.

Thats why I have an IRS brace =)
Im on 2" H&R springs, camber plates, IRS brace, subframe connectors, strut brace, and 00R Brembo kit. I also dont take it to the track and Im pretty easy on the car for the most part. Two testimonies of handling: First, I have a friend who has owned both an 07 and 11 GT, both build for drag. Cam, gears, slicks, etc. He moved up to the '11 and it wasnt enough, he started looking into boost options and everybody told him to get a Terminator. I let him drive mine and he was surprised at how well it handled compared to the '11. He ended up scoring a Termi, porting the blower, and he's the one selling me the blower when he moves up to a Whipple next year. Second is a guy I know who has a time attack-built S2000. Not that this thing will EVER see a track, but thats how he talks yknow? I let him take it out for a spin and he was also very surprised by the handling. Of course, its a brick compared to an S2000, but the hear praise from a guy who drives a go cart it was pretty good input. |

Honestly though, EVERY factory is going to have it's share of problems. It's how they handle those problems that makes the difference. Hell, I had one of my machines screw up big time yesterday and it pressed in the bolts all crooked on about 30 parts, before crashing itself. I was standing right next to it, and it sounded like a gun going off. I just-about shit my pants! But - rest assured loyal Toyota customer! - all parts were scrapped and screened for defects, the machine was repaired properly, and I'm already taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. (That's kinda what I meant by "it's how they handle those problems that makes the difference"). Last edited by Cobra Terrorist; 10-07-2011 at 12:42 PM.. |

Local dealership in the service department. I saw new nightmares and old nightmares. But I will admit, I saw my share of old ass Yotas that came in regularly for oil changes and never had an issue. When we did the Tacoma frame recall half these things were cracked in half and the owners didnt want to part with them and never had problems beyond the frame.
