Oh my goodness, just started a sociology class and in addition to blaming everything on everything, we actually had a lecture on how boys playing with G I Joe turns us all into violent killers and woman beaters!!!!
Give me a break, yo joe!!!! |

I'll kill anyone for even suggesting such a thing. Right after I finish beating down the lady in the next cubicle.

I would wear a GI Joe shirt to class and have my ringtone as the GI Joe theme song. Then have someone call me during the class. Yo Joe, muthafuckers.

While I agree with your assessment, there is a very odd difference in the boy and girl toy lines. I did a study on it for a class last year.
Almost every boy toy deals with some sort of conflict, the few exception is Hot Wheels, Cars, and toy story. Girls stuff (oddly) deals mostly with work, cleaning, child care, pet grooming ect, or with looking pretty (princesses ect). Moster High hadn't come out yet but I would have liked to have had them in there. The exersize was pretty much data gathering and not interpretation, but there is an odd seperation of what is acceptable for boys vs. girls. But that is a drastic interpretation, if that were even remotely true half the world's population would be dead by violent crimes just based on how popular GI Joe has been in the past. At best that is a simplistic assumption akin to the assinign study on violent kids and comic books in the 1950's (taken seriously then). We did look at some related studies later and there was no corilation to military or violent toys to violent behavior. HOWEVER there was a corleation between violent behavor and Violent toys (or media) meaning that violent people were attracted to such things, but there was nothing to say the media itself influenced behavior. Sounds like the teacher is assuming alot on half info. |

Anyway, I find these sorts of "studies" or connections interesting, because they always tend to focus on the violence, since that is the obvious aspect. But they don't focus on the positive stuff these shows can teach you. I was basically raised on GI Joe and Transformers. Heck, Optimus Prime was more of a father to me than my actual father. I learned about honor and respect and protecting those that are important to you. For me, the action was just fun, but it was the characters that kept me glued. There were plenty of violent cartoons on TV, but I always gravitated towards Joes and Transformers. |

well, i do have a violent streak, but it has nothing to do with gi joes as a damn kid, it's because of growing up with no father, and just making my own rules and pissed at the world because the way things were in my household as a child, tell your teacher unclassified said he's a fuckin' retard, and see what college gets you? if he swung a hammer in the field, he'd have common sense.. college just gets you a title of achievment and a big pay check, but the fucker still has to pay someone to fix a leaky faucet cause he's to idiotic to do so..
what a fuckin' moron.. drop that class and pick up a hammer before you end up like him.. |

I wonder if the teacher is a woman? Yeah, every time I hear the joe theme song or play a video game I turn into a violent serial killer. Just like a werewolf or Jekle/Hyde transformation. The first person I'd kill would be this idiotic teacher.

Oooo, I like that one, lol. I gotta quote that. Oh, and G.I.Joe is NOT responsible for people being violent, for Christ's sake. That's just the our super-emo society trying to blame everyone else for their flaws, instead of themselves. You beat your wife? That's because you are a piece-of-shit of a person deep-down inside, not because you saw HISS Tanks blow up on G.I.Joe. Last edited by Cobra Terrorist; 09-30-2011 at 09:27 PM.. |
