While hunting for GI Joes and Star Wars figures, one lesson I've learned that others have figured out is going to a store in the early afternoon when staff have had time to stock shelves after the truck has left and things have slowed down after lunch.
Well this means I take a late lunch around 2 to hit my local stores. Working for a local county government I wear khaki pants, and a plain color polo shirt. This results in having to plan out my day if I go to certain stores. Reason being that if I have on a certain colored top there is a great possiblity of being stopped and asked if I work there?, can I check on something in the back? or am I the manager? Despite my numerous witty responses to these questions, I do not wear my county ID so I'm not implicated or start any government incidents while I hunt for joes ("County employee suspended after beating Scalper to death with Kota"). So now when I hit Target on my lunch hour, I of course avoid wearing any shade of a red shirt, (supposedly burgundy or carrying a cart full of Joes to checkout isn't a clue that I don't work there) and when I hit Wal-mart or Best Buy, no blue shirts for me. Of course I'm still hit when I stop into TRU because I forget that they wear red and no longer blue smocks and that's when I look down at my shirt and see my crimson top. The silly crap we go through to score our figures. |

That's interesting. I dont even wear khakis and I get silly questions like where are the legos?
I point in the wrong direction and go about my biz!

I was wearing a red polo and camo shorts when I bought some Star Wars figs @ Target, when I checked out the woman asked if I worked there and for shits and giggles I said yes. She asked for my discount card to which I said I was new. Sadly she bought it and I walked out paying 10% less. I was in shock.

I usually go shopping after work in a shirt and slacks, and I can't tell you how many times people think I work there. Not just toy stores, but everywhere.
Its part of the epidemic that most people dress like slobs so they think that the only people who would dress nicely are the people who work in management at a store. |

I had that happen twice in one day while looking for figures. I went to Sears Essentials in the afternoon to check out their Joe stock and they had jack. I normally wear blue jeans and a polo. I happened to have my county id badge on at the time because i had just left a police department, i was asked 2x's by customers about products in the store before i realized that it was my id that brought them to me.
Later that night, a similar situation. I had left a P.D. and walked into WalMart. A couple came up to me to ask about something and then after i told them that i didn't work for WalMart they walked away and said "ah, plain clothes".. it too me a second to figure out that they thought i was a undercover officer. LOL.. |
