My wife and I have been out to 3 restaurants in the last couple weeks. Once for breakfast, once for lunch, once for dinner. All three restaurants were I'm completely different parts of town. But they all had one thing in common- shitty service. I mean really bad, makes you want to leave early shitty service.
So yesterday the wife had the day off so we decided to hit Denny's. I was starving and decided to pig out. I ordered (I think it's called the lumberjack slam) that comes with eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, hash browns and pancakes. Well there was a section of about 20 people next to us that were blind. Apparently they go there every Saturday. Well when our waitress came to take our order she was complaining that we weren't actually in her section and she only offers to work Saturday do she can wait on the blind section. Do I order and we wait a while. I decide to go to the choose machine and try to win my son a toy. When I come back our food is at the table. Problem is she gave me hash browns, toast and eggs. So I think maybe she went back for ther rest. Well after about 10 minutes of not seeing her I start to get impatient. I watch her run back and forth between ther kitchen and the blind section. I try to wave her down and she ignores me. So I grab another waitress and tell her to get our waitress. Well she gets the manager. The manager grabs our waitress and they both come to my table. I explain what happened and the waitress denies it. Then she looks at the order sheet and realizes she screwed up. I told her if she wasn't worried about the blind section then she would have noticed her mistakes. The manager offers me the rest of the food in a to go box and I told her if I wanted to eat at home I wouldn't be here. She then offers to take my meal off the bill. I laughed at her and told her she can't charge me for my meal because I never even got it anyways. So she ended up giving us the meal for free even though I offered to pay. My wife hates when I complain but I tell her if we don't complain then nobody will know that the waitress sucks. When you have terrible service at a restaurant do you complain or just deal with it?

I went to Chillis a long time ago (last time) and I ordered a steak, my wife got a salad and the other couple odered some other menu items. They brought my wife her salad, the lettuce was literally slimy it was so old and covered in tomatoes in which the wife asked for none. My steak was nowhere to be found! My wife sends the salad back and it is returned the ways she ordered it... my friends have their food, my staek is still MIA. I manage to catch the manager walking by as now the other couple and my wife have finished eating and ask him where the hell my food is at... he tells me he will check. We have now been sitting for 20 minutes after the other couple has finished eating waiting on the bill and my food, the waitress shows up with the check... and my steak is on it. I tell her to get the manager, he shows up 10 minutes later with my steak on a plate... and it literally stinks it is so rancid. I tell them to shove it up their ass to take it off the check that I didn't want it... the manager literally told me I didn't have to be so rude! I almost hit him I was so pissed, my friends paid their bill and we left. The manager offered us gift certificates, but I told him that it was the last time I would be at Chillis and to save them for someone who would use them. I had bad service at the Chillis in Charlotte NC, Gainesvilee Florida twice (home of the invisible steak) and in Jacksonville Florida... I will never eat there again!

depends on what was bad...service or food
i wont wait to eat, so if there is a line, there are many, many other establishments to go to. if its bad service, the wait persons tip is involved (or lack there of) if its the food, i dont eat it ...and dont pay for it

Really depends on the mood im in. Normally though its just no tip if it gets to the point of me complaining then I will wait till after I ate. Whats the point of complaining before hand so that the waiter/waitress can spit in my food.

You know, sit-down fast-food I dont consider a restaurant to begin with so I dont expect great "service". If they bring my food and its correct, thats about as good as I expect.
If something is REALLY bad or REALLY messed up, or the person waiting on me is REALLY an asshole, then yeah, I complain. Your scenario, I would have explained what happened and left. Simple as that. I dont care too much honestly. Its Dennys, the waitress is basically forced there (who really WANTS a job waiting tables at Dennys) and Im not expecting the moon. Ive been to Dennys twice in my life: The last time was 12 years ago. Thats how I complain the loudest. |

Rarely.
1st I follow the golden rule of food...if you complain thy will do some nasty stuff to your food. I had a friend who used to work for a restaurant and even if all the stories are BS I'm not taking chances. I also rarely complain in retail stores about service...if service sucks I just put down whatever I was going to buy, and I leave. A good example of the two was I went to White Castle for 2 Pulled Pork sandwiches at the drive thru...there were 3 cars ahead of me having already placed their orders...I pulled up to the box and was told, "Can you wait?" I happily did...for 5 minutes. The happily placed my order and pulled up...for the next 20 minutes the line didn't move as I had yet even made it to the window to pay...and STILL would have to wait for the 3 cars ahead of me to do so I gave up and pulled out of line and drove away. My one and only time I do bring issues of complaint to store managment is wrong pricing. As long as Customer Service handles it I'm fine with just getting my adjustment...BUT on rare occassions when I am completely right...and I say that because if the store proves to me I am wrong I will happily admit that and thank them for their time, but as a person who has worked in retail for nearly 20 years I usually can read a sign, shelf tags etc, so as long as it makes some sense all is good. But a great example was in TRU one day they had some of the old Star Trek Galoob ships that had lights and sounds on a table and there were a TON of them...like 40 pieces the sign read $9.99 no description at all so I bought it along with $800 in other toys it rang up as...$29.99. Now I know this is likely a simple mistake of some joe blow not adding the 2 to the sign but hey you made the mistake you gotta honor it...so I brought it to customer service and eventually to management and calmly explained my situation when managment still said no I then explained, "Ok but it seems silly for you to lose an $800 sale for you $20 mistake." I got it for $9.99. Also TRU I bought a something for my niece a ticket item, there was ONE ticket left, so I asked the sales associate to check make sure they had the item because there was only one ticket...they check and yes they had it. So I bought it, went to pick up waited 45 minutes to be told, "Sorry we don't have it." Went to managment and walked out with a refund for half the item and a free assembly came back a week later to get the item when it came back in. |

Bad service is terrible tip for me. I don;t give a damn if your a waier and are super busy and just can;t get around.. you better improvise!! If your gonna be a shitty waitress or waiter then I will smile and enjoy my food and be happy as a clam, but when my meal is over... you will get the screwing of a lifetime come tip time. If your good.. you get paid.. if your terrible, you will get a damn quarter! AND YES.. I HAVE LEFT A DAMN QUARTER AND THEN TURNED THE RECEIPT OVER AND MADE A LIST OF WHAT THE DUMBASS DID WRONG!!
