I ran across my old baseball cards a few weeks ago, and I've been going through them. I have some complete sets and some loose ones. I'm contemplating getting rid of them, as I have no real interest in baseball overall and my sons don't either. I haven't collected a baseball card since 1990 or so. I was just wondering what the best way is to sell them. I don't really like ebay, but if that's what I hafta do, well, then that's life. I thought about craigslist. Does Beckett still make a pricing guide? I really have no idea what prices for some of these run these days. I'm pretty sure the Mark McGwire cards are worth less now. ;-)

I don't collect baseball cards, or any cards for that matter. But my wife collected a shit-ton of basketball cards and some football cards from the 80's and 90's. Mostly 90's.
Shoeboxes and binders full. Complete sets. Uncut sheets. Rookie cards. A couple autographed. Jordan, Bird, MJ, Worthy, Pippen. Lot of big names. Her brother collected them also. He has more than she does. He told her that he looked into selling them, and he was told there wasn't really a market for them right now. It's not a popular item today for collectors. You can take that for what it's worth. |

I was thinking this as well. I knew that just because I wasn't into it didn't mean that no one else was, but I remember when you could find a shop that sold baseball cards all over the place, and anymore, I don't see that many at all, if any. I quit collecting baseball cards when they got too expensive per pack and when there became not only too many brands, but too many brands within brands. I remember Topps putting out so many different sub sets that it wasn't even manageable. Oh, and I entered jr. high and girls didn't seem to dig baseball card collecting too much, either, so, there you have it.

I collect football cards. Basically there is only a few cards worth money. The occasional 80s rookie (Marino, Elway), very old cards (pre 70s) and modern inserts. By inserts I mean jersey cards (actual game used jersey pieces on them), sequentially numbered cards and autograph cards. Even rookies (unless numbered) really aren't worth much. I used to have a dollar box with jersey cards and autographs in it. Basically if you get an auto, memorabilia card, or a numbered card there's a chance it's valuable. The rest are pretty much crap.
