Dude. Your spelling is an epic fail. Kanye. Not Kayne.
Also, Jay Z and Kanye, pretty awesome. Saying "fuck hip hop in general," is like saying "fuck black people." Is there a lot of grandstanding and "Look at how awesome I am!" in the mainstream? Yes. But there's shit music across the border in mainstream. Turn on any rock station and when they're not replaying old Nirvana and Metallica hits, every fucking band you hear is going to sound the exact same. Saving Able, Sick Puppies, Three Days Grace... Who the fuck else? Those bands are identical. And shitty.

Just so YOU know it doesn't scream politics. Unless somebody brings it to the table. IT would be best NOT to do that.
What this topic does scream is how two people fail upward. They will get money for this. Somebody will pay. It will look good and all but at the end of the day they could have done more. |

Ok so I thought a little more about this. The car retails at 350k. But this one was probably bought used and at a discount as long as they use the dealer name during the auction. So they probably have 200k in it. The rest of the video has no special effects. So after all is said and done they have probably about 400k into the video. I'm sure their average video is more than that. So they didn't spend any more money than they would on a regular video. Add to that the fact that they are auctioning it for charity and it seems like a genius move on their part. But of course people will say "why not just donate the 200k to charity?" Well then they would still spend the 200k on the music video itself so they would be blowing even more money. Not to mention this thread wouldn't exist if Kanye and Jay Z just donated the money. This was a publicity stunt and every time someone watches it (whether they like the video out hate it) it's just giving them more publicity. They are both multi-millionaires, they know how to play the game.

I'm willing to bet they do get money for their charity. Perhaps it might have been a better idea to just not buy the 300K car and donate the money to charity directly, but there are a number of black rappers and assorted entrepreneurs who will gladly dish out the cash to make the auction a success. In my experience with black kids and teenagers, I honestly doubt that the target demographic of these folks or their wasteful publicity stunts are aimed at taking America's white kids because they have their parent's disposable income. How about America's youth is black, white, asian, native, et al? Kids are stupid and easily lead, sure. So are most adults. But, all our money is green; even if we took it from our dad's wallet to buy an eminem CD, a samurai sword, a bag of reefer or a 200 year old stamp. You can't play up the appeal-to-white-kids angle while also mentioning that black kids have to wonder if they'll make it home from school without being shot. Poverty and violence aren't black or white: they're poverty. A rich kid who has a few grains of sense might be able to pick up on the message of black artists without becoming zombie ghetto murderers. I doubt that in-your-face lifestyles are a new phenom with the rise of famous black rappers who don't kowtow to the white sensability to gain noteriety. Maybe you're just offended that white kids want to be rich black rappers. How is that any different than a poor black kid on the mowtown label wishing he was a 12 year old white girl? (I haven't been able to play Michael Jackson in the last 6 years without someone looking at me like I just crammed a baby down the garbage dispose-all. Even I noticed the change and sudden embreace of the black community after he died. Hypocrisy in the face of judgement, frankly.)
This topic almost screams politics, just so you know. |
